TARRABAIN, Sid Mohammed, Q.C.

It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the tragic death of our husband, father, son and brother. Sid passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at the age of 52. Sid was born and raised in Lac La Biche, Alberta to Mohammed "Jim" and Inaam Tarrabain. He was the only son of a family of ten.
Sid's presence was always felt. He was vibrant, magnanimous and kind. Growing up in Lac La Biche, Sid was involved in the family business at an early age starting with the mink ranch then the gas station and carwash and eventually the present dealership. After graduating from J. A. Williams high school, Sid attended the University of Alberta obtaining a Bachelor of Science. He then achieved a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) in 1985 from the University of Cardiff in Wales and in 1986 joined the Law Society of Alberta and began practicing law in Edmonton. Sid went on to open his own law firm (Tarrabain & Company) in 1990, the start to a very successful career. He went on to argue cases before the Supreme Court of Canada setting precedent cases. Fighting for client's democratic rights, he became one of Alberta's prominent lawyers. He also became a member of the Law Society of the Northwest Territories and appeared before both National and International court tribunals. So esteemed, he was honored Queens Counsel in 2001. His passion was the law, never leaving an issue unturned.
Sid was very involved with the Edmonton and Lac La Biche communities, touching many hearts and lives around him. He was a philanthropist and undertook many tasks to help address issues that were important to him. He devoted himself to family; he was a loving husband and father, a caring son, brother and uncle and a loyal and faithful friend and employer.
Predeceased by his father and best friend, Mohammed (Jim) Tarrabain, he leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Sharon, their 3 daughters, Jordana, Tamam and Sydney. His daughter Chloe. His mother, Inaam and nine sisters, Fatima, Seham (Sine - Zeher, Alia, Adam) Tamam (Jean Pierre- Nadya, Kareem) Mysoon (Hidar - Mecca and Methal) Soad (Joe), Amane (Wayne- Ali, Miya and Zachary) Hyatt, Heyam (Hank- Kamilla, Sammy and Sophia) and Senia.
Sid was our bright shining star, our sweet prince, and he will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
A Memorial service will take place at the Edmonton Islamic Academy on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. 14525 - 127 Street, Edmonton, Alberta. Following the service, internment will take place in Lac La Biche at the Willow Park Cemetery.
As a tribute to his love of community and in memory of Sid, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stollery Childrens Hospital Foundation, 1502 College Plaza, 8215 - 112 Street, Edmonton, Alberta T6G 2C8.

Sid was such a bright and caring man who always had time to chat with me even when I was just the girl in the office who came to scan the files. My thoughts are with you.

To the entire Tarrabain family: I am sincerely sorry to hear of Sid's passing. I was away on vacation out of province and regret not being able to attend the service held for him. I hope that all the fond memories you have of Sid will give you the strength to make it through this difficult time. Sid will be sorely missed by all members of the legal community. Sid appeared before me on numerous occasions in Provincial Court. It was always a pleasure to listen to him present his arguments on behalf of his clients. He was so capable and always well prepared. He was one of the best.

Dear Tarrabain family, When I learned of Sid's passing I went into absolute shock. He is my cousin and he was a bright light in our family. He was also a devoted husband and father and a generous contributor to the community. He exhibted compassion, brilliance and generosity in much of what he did. His passing is a huge loss to all. We have never met a person that has left such an impact on our family in such a short period of time. We have only known Sid for less than 1 year but his unique personality makes us feel as though we've known him for years. Our deepest sympathy to his family and Law firm.
