Stanley Hall Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 19 to Nov. 21, 2009.
HALL, Stanley Byrom November 8, 1932 - November 13, 2009 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stan Hall at the age of 77 years. Stan is predeceased by his wife Sally and his son Michael (Mary Fedun). He leaves to mourn his loving daughters Patti (Glyn) Potter, Sandi (Matt) McDonald and Nanci (Paul) Cavill and grandchildren Alex, Doug, Tim, Robert, Emily, Ben and Holly. Stan was born in Dundas, Ontario the only son of Edith and Douglas Hall. He attended Hillfield School before completing his education at Upper Canada College. He commenced his career at CN Rail in Hamilton at the age of 16 as a stenographer, in what was then the Freight Traffic Department. He moved through various traffic positions and in 1958 was appointed Freight Sales Trainee in Toronto. In 1961 he relocated to Montreal as Freight Sales Analyst, St. Lawrence Region. While in Montreal he was moved to Marketing Headquarters, held several senior positions and became Manager Market Promotion, with responsibilities for marketing training and advertising. In 1970 he was transferred to Winnipeg as Regional Freight Sales Manager, Prairie Region. In a few short years he became Regional Manager Marketing, Prairie Region. In 1979 he was transferred to Edmonton as General Manager Marketing, Western Canada. During his 46 years of service he made many friends, both inside CN and in the business community. Before and after his retirement in 1994, he and Sally indulged their passion for travel by visiting various countries on six continents. They also had great affection for cruise ship travel and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2004 by taking their children and families on a cruise to Mexico. Both Stan and Sally were generous to a fault and hosted many parties for their friends and also opened their home to their children's friends who were treated like family. Stan was a dedicated golfer and took full advantage of his membership at The Edmonton Golf and Country Club. He was also a self-taught computer 'techie', a talent he contributed to the Edmonton Freenet during his retirement. He spent many volunteer hours working at their office and installed donated computers for people in their homes. Friends who wish to remember Stan's life may do so on Saturday November 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 11111 - 57 Avenue. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Charles Butts and the staff at the Cross Cancer Institute. Donations in Stan's honour may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2 Howard & McBride Westlawn Chapel (780) 484-5500

Ann joins with me in expressing our sincere sympathy for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
After a long and difficult fight, it's Stan's time to rest.

Stan and I go back to the 1960's in Montreal and, over the years, I came to know him as a colleague, mentor, boss, and very good friend. Stan was one of the good ones; he'll be missed.

Dear Hall family. I work at Touchmark on the weekends and Stan was such a delight to all of us. His sense of humor and ready smile was infectious. I also teased him because I had an Uncle Stan Hall who passed away just a few months ago as well. My sincere sympathy to the family. We will sure miss your dad.

To the Hall Family - Stan was such a patient computer teacher. He brought our Railvets into the 21st century and we owe him so much for this and for all his work with the CNPA. Stan had suffered so much in the last few years and everything seemed so very unfair. All my sympathy

Sincere sympathy on the loss of your Dad and Grand-Dad.

Almost 50 years since Stan and I met and worked together in Toronto.Well remember the friendly welcome he gave the 'guy from the west'. It was a privilege to have known Stan as friend, colleague and 'the boss' for so many years.

Lots of fine memories of Stan and Sally.

To the Hall family;

Like most who will sign this guest book my career and life were touched by Stan. All in a good way, as a mentor and in the latter years, friend.
I have fond memories of both he and Sally.

The life lessons he taught will always be with me.

To the Hall family:

I was very saddened to read of Stan's passing. I came to know Stan during my time at CN and found him to be a great guy. When I accepted a promotion with CN to Winnipeg in 1983, Stan drove me from the airport to my hotel, as we were on the same flight to Winnipeg that night.

Please accept my sincere sympathies and condolences at this very difficult time.

It was with great saddness when I learned of Stan's death. Although I only got to know Stan on National Council CN Pensioners, we shared a lot of similar interests and quickly became "friends".

I am certain that his death will surely leave a void in the lives of his remaining family; however he will also be sadly missed by his friends and fellow colleagues at CN and CNPA.
