Thomas Curl Peek Sr., 93, died on Saturday, June 17, at Casa de Manana in La Jolla, California. He was surrounded by all of his children in his last week and died peacefully.
Tom was born in St. Louis on the hot Saturday afternoon of Aug. 18, 1923, and moved to La Jolla with his Mother and two sisters in the summer of 1941.
He took his maternal grandfather's name in 1941. He served in a Patrol Torpedo Squadron in the South Pacific as a Petty Officer in the Navy during World War II. He earned a Bachelor of Science at the U.C. Berkeley Haas School of Business in 1948.
Shortly thereafter, Tom started his career in the life insurance business. He was associated with the Prudential Insurance Company for most of his working career. He was general manager of Prudential Agencies in San Diego and Oakland and served as a marketing vice president.
During his business career, he also served a number of insurance organizations as an officer and board member. In San Diego, he was an original board member of Combined Health Agencies Drive. As Chairman for the organization, he assisted in forming a campaign relationship with The United Way. He was also on the board and served as president of the Kiwanis Club of San Diego, participating in a number of civic projects. And he was an elected school board member in Moraga, California.
He earned his Eagle Scout in 1941, was a Scoutmaster and served on the Eagle Scout Alumni board. As a devoted Christian, he served St. James by the Sea Episcopal Church and the San Diego Episcopal Diocese in a number of capacities.
In 1952, Tom married his beloved wife, Ellen Barlow McNally. They had seven children: Mary Maude Blackard (John), Thomas C. Peek Jr. (Lori), John K. Peek (Stacy), Richard B. Peek (Laura), Edward M. Peek (Leah), Virginia Elizabeth (Wig) Arnold, Robert L. Peek (Lynn). They also had 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St James by the Sea Episcopal Church, 743 Prospect St., La Jolla, California, on July 1at 3 p.m.

Dear PeekFamily,
Your father was a wonderful friend of mine. We attended St. James by the Sea Church and lived at Casa de Mañana for many years at the same time. My deepest sympathy to all of you on the loss of your father. He will be missed by all who knew him.
