Vernon Peterson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 28, 2014.
Vernon Dale Peterson, known to most as Pete, 67, St. Clair, departed this life Saturday, June 21, 2014, in St. Clair.

Pete, son of the late John Skien Peterson and wife Norma Jean, nee Johnson, was born May 27, 1947 in Sullivan.

Pete was a Christian of the Baptist faith and member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, St. Clair. Pete was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, entering on June 17, 1966, and receiving his honorable discharge on April 16, 1970, after attaining the rank of sergeant. Pete was employed by Daimler-Chrysler Corporation in Fenton, from 1965 through 2009, retiring after 44 years of service. He also was a proud member of United Auto Workers Local 136 in St. Louis. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2482 of St. Clair, and a member of American Legion Post 347 of St. Clair. Pete had a variety of interests throughout his life including watching college and professional sports on television, but his passion was golfing and shooting guns. Although he had no children of his own, he loved his nieces and nephews as his own. The many precious memories created with his family will forever live in their hearts.

Pete is survived by three brothers, David Alan Peterson and wife Diane, St. Clair, Gary Edward Peterson of Central Point, Ore., and Jeffrey Dean Peterson, Union; two sisters, Janice Lee Hoff and husband Kenneth Sr., St. Clair, and Teresa Jean Brockman and husband Dr. Kirk, Washington; by aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, John and Norma Peterson.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 27, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, St. Clair, with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating.

Interment was in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair. Memorials may be given to Wounded Warrior Project or Mount Zion Baptist Church.

The family of Pete Peterson entrusted the care of their loved one to Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair.
