Vincent DelNero Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 9, 2008.
DELNERO, VINCENT L. 'VINNY', 63, of Smithfield, died unexpectedly on Wednesday at Massachusetts General Hospital, due to complications from surgery. He was surrounded by family and friends, including his wife of 37 years, Christine (Esau) DelNero and their sons Michael V. DelNero of Perrysburg, Ohio and Matthew S. DelNero of Washington, DC.

Born in Providence, Vinny was the son of the late James V. and Lida (Melarango) DelNero, and stepson of Mafalda Ann (Spirito) DelNero. His aunt, the late Alice DelNero, was also a loving presence in his upbringing. Vinny graduated from the Moses Brown School and Bryant University.

Following college, he became a Certified Public Accountant. Over the past 35 years, he worked in financial and executive positions at Price Waterhouse, L.G. Balfour Co., and Pawtucket Mutual Insurance Co. Vinny played an active role in the community, serving on the boards of Delta Dental of Rhode Island, Foundation for Health, and the Boys and Girls Club of Pawtucket. He was a member of the Pawtucket Rotary Club. More than any of these accomplishments, he enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly on vacations and visits to his son's homes.

In addition to his wife and two sons, Vinny will be sorely missed by his younger sons partner, C. Paul Heins; brothers-in-law Robert Esau and Steven Esau and their families; many cousins; and close family friends, including Frank Lubrano and Linda Dumas.

Vinny's funeral will be on Tuesday at 8:45 am from the 'Woodlawn-Gattone' Funeral Home, 600 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul, 30 Fenner St., Providence. Burial will follow in St. Anns Cemetery in Cranston. Calling hours are Monday, 4-7 pm in the 'Woodlawn-Gattone' Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vinny's name to MGH Kidney Transplant Gift Fund, c/o A. Benedict Cosimi MD, 55 Fruit St., Boston, MA 02114.

My dear Chris,
I was stunned today to learn of Vinny's sudden and untimely death. I know you are such a strong person and Michael and Matt will comfort you - but the time ahead will be tough. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Some of the best times in my life were spent w/ you two - didn't we laugh and cry together?! I'm just so sad for all of us who knew him, but most of all for you. He was a special person. I will call you soon.
All my love,

Chris and family, words cannot express how sorry I was to hear about Vinny. I worked with him for many years at Pawtucket Mutual and always admired his calm demeanor and ability to make people comfortable. I will always remember the good times at "The Jack-O-Lantern the past 19 years and the many parties we enjoyed together at PMI. My prayers are with you and your family

Chris, Michael and Matthew,

I am so sorry for your loss. Vinny and I worked together at PW for over 9 years in the 70’s when we were both just out of school and with all that we went through just starting our careers, Vinny was a great friend and co-worker always ready to help another. He was also always ready to have fun and joke around which was our way of reducing the tension of jobs we took way to seriously back then. He always spoke lovingly about his family and among all the people I worked with at PW, I feel I know you-all very well because you were so much a part of Vinny’s life. After PW we saw each other at Alumni functions, played golf and occasionally conducted business (when necessary) and Vinny was always the same friendly, open gentleman.
I have been in touch with many of the PW-alumni this weekend and everyone is saddened over this. Vinny did not have an enemy in the world and I hope that this will help you to get through this difficult time and remember him in happier times. I am sorry that I will be unable to attend the service, but please know that Vinny and your entire family are in my prayers.

Chris - Words cannot express how sorry I am about Vinny -- I never had the pleasure of meeting him but feel that I know him through you. Nothing will ever make the hurt go away but know that I am thinking of you and your boys and praying for you all to get through this horrible time and to someday be able to smile and laugh and feel joy for all the wonderful memories that Vinny will leave as his legacy to all of you. I feel your pain Chris and will give my "buddha kitty" Yogi extra squeezes from you as you requested. Rest in Peace Vinny - love and special hugs to you Chris - your friend, Janet xoxo

Chris, and family. You have my sincere sympathy at this most difficult time. What a true gentleman your wonderful husband and father was and will always be.
Hopefully you realize that your loving presence in his life made him so proud and happy. May wonderful memories sustain you. He loved you so and always will.
Chris, your love and support helped me so much when Bill died. I only hope I may be likewise able to offer you support and love. Vinnie was blessed to have you; you are fortunate to forever and always have precious Vinnie in your soul and heart. No one can ever take that from you. Hold on to that realization tightly over the next few days and weeks. Vinnie loved you and you loved Vinnie; that will never, ever change.
In heartfelt sympathy and love,
Kathy Shay

My heart goes out to you and your family. I have never met Vinny but I feel like I know him in some way Chris. Just by our last conversation together, I could tell he was a wonderful man and husband to you, and that you had a deep connection to one another. It also was so evident in your eyes, how much you loved and cared for him. May his memories and the love you had together, continue to give you strength and courage for the days ahead. I pray that you are surrounded with God’s love and you feel his presence during this difficult time.
