Born in Varaklani, Latvia Dec. 7, 1919. Welcomed home into the presence of His Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, Mar. 12, 2014. Devoted husband of 67 years to the late Antonina Bernans (2011). Loving father of the late George Bernans (1974) and wife Helen Riordon, daughter Rita and husband Jim Demers, son Andy Bernans and wife Kim of Ottawa, daughter Anita and husband Oskar Klavins of Calgary, AB. Dear father-in- law of Charles Janisse. Beloved grandfather of David Bernans and wife Annie, John Bernans and wife Heidi, Nicole Janisse and husband Jason Rolfe, Jason and Jean-Paul Janisse, Mathew and Mark Bernans, Erika Klavins & Steven Yaskiw, Thomas Klavins & Paul Klavins. Dear great-grandfather of Sasha and Clementine Bernans, Lyla Rolfe and Ella Grace Bernans. Brother-in-law of the late John Latkovskis and wife Hanni. Uncle to Art and Darlene Latkovskis. Vladislavs was very proud of his Latvian heritage and was a lifetime member of LNAK (Latvian National Association of Canada) and LFF (Latvian Freedom Fund) as well as past president and long-standing member of the Latvian Association of Windsor. He was a faithful and energetic member of Latvian Fraternity "Lacuania". "Val" was a member of C.A.W. local 444 and IBEW International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) local 636. He was also a member of Moose Lodge 1499 of Windsor. "Val" faithfully served as a long time usher for St. Rose/Our Lady of Guadalupe Churches. He was devoted to his family, his gardens and his grandchildren. If you so desire memorial donations to the Windsor Youth Centre or Windsor Downtown Mission would be appreciated by the family. On Monday family and friends are invited to meet at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St Rose of Lima Church (834 Raymo Rd) from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment Windsor Memorial Gardens.
