Donald Wayne Gayle, 76, of Ruther Glen, died peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2022, at McGuire Veterans Hospital. Born in Fredericksburg, on November 23, 1946, he was the son of the late Julian and Emma (Cassie) Gayle.

Wayne graduated from C.T. Smith High School as Salutatorian in 1965, then graduated from Virginia Tech in 1969. He then was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a medic during the Vietnam era. He worked and eventually retired from Signet Bank. Then he went to work for Landcrafters of Ashland where he fulfilled his love of the outdoors. He was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Wayne loved being with his family and extended family, always attending and contributing food to family functions.

Survivors include his siblings, Dennis Ray Gayle, David Winford Gayle (Susan) and Joyce Gayle Duncan (Mike); three nieces, Amy Doss (Phil), Shannon Gayle and Andrea Gayle; two nephews, Andrew Coghill (Ellen) and Derek Gayle; two great-nephews, Austin Doss and Zane Coghill; and a great-niece, Haleigh Coghill.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2022, at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green, VA 22427. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Bethel Baptist Church, 14036 S. River Road, Woodford, VA 22580. Burial will follow at Carmel Baptist Church, Ruther Glen, VA 22546. Sign register book online www.storkefuneralhome.com.
