William Driscoll Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 4, 2015.
AUBURN – William Anthony Driscoll, 81, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn with his family at his side. Born September 16, 1933 in New Auburn, he was the youngest child of Francis and Annie (Sullivan) Driscoll. A 1951 graduate of Edward Little High School, he was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Bill lived his life in group homes, spending his final three years in the Limerick Unit at Clover Healthcare in Auburn. It was there that a kind staff provided the warm and loving home that he had yearned for all his adult life. Bill loved Dunkin Donuts coffee, chocolate glazed donuts, and cigars. His singing was legendary. He had a song for every occasion. Bill loved the Boston Red Sox almost as much as he loved his Roman Catholic faith. But his greatest joy was what he called "my big loving family." His 18 nieces and nephews received $5 from "Uncle Billy" in every Christmas card for the past 60 years. "I wanted to help them out," he always said. Cared for by his brothers and sisters over the years, his nieces and nephews were blessed with the opportunity to be his caregivers when the older generation was no longer able to do so. He is survived by his sister Rosalie Driscoll Hames, his nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Frank, John, and Daniel, and his sisters Catherine, Dorothy, Beatrice, Marguerite and Elizabeth. Billy so enjoyed being with his family on summer weekends at Sabbathday Lake.
He is probably now teaching the angels a few tunes!
Our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the extended Driscoll family and may fond memories sustain and comfort you. Love, Stephanie and Jim Abrams

I shall always remember Bill for him singing the entire song of "Every little breeze seems to whisper Louise" to me at Clover reception. I could depend on Bill saying "hello" when he sat outside in the Limerick "garden" and wishing me a good day!
He must be sharing his beautiful voice with the angels in heaven.

My fondest memory of Uncle Bill was as a little girl at my grandfather's, Daniel, and Aunt Barb's Christmas gatherings. Uncle Bill would sit in the large recliner chair all dressed up smelling like sweet cigars. We'd sing Christmas carols led by Aunt Barb on her piano. Uncle Billy had the baritone mastered . I could always pick him out of the crowd with his deep voice. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.
