I wanted to pass on my prayers and condolences to Bill's family. I just learned of Bill's passing from a mutual colleague. I worked with Bill as a client of BlueMetal. Bill was always a gentleman. He was bright, warm, and eminently reasonable. May he rest in peace and cast a warm glow on those who knew him.

Only just saw the sad and totally unexpected news about Bill yesterday, and its taken a full 24 to come to grips with it. Like others, I have a trunkful of great memories about working with Bill, laughing with Bill, and, yes, having a few with Bill.
My knowledge of his early life across the pond was limited to witnessing him speak longingly, at times, of maybe chucking it all to go back and be a Northumberland pig farmer.
But the Bank Boston years, for that I had a ringside seat for a good decade. Of young Bill 24 perhaps, skinny, irreverent, Brit accent still strong -- my lasting memory is sitting in a meeting with him and Terry Dargin, discussing enhancements to the DIBS/SWIFT interface (dont ask). Bills posture was to slouch about as much as one could possibly slouch in a chair, throw his head back, and drape his tie up over his chin and forehead. Did I mention he could be irreverent?
One thing led to another, and we worked on a number of longer-term efforts together, primarily Gateway, Montreal, and Gateway II. As anyone will tell you, Bill was whipsmart when it came to tech issues, and generally could be found thinking two or three steps ahead of the rest of us. This caused him to be impatient at times, and he didnt suffer fools gladly, but it was crystal clear to everyone that he was a special talent.
Yeah, it was long ago, but it also feels like yesterday. I will miss Bills off-kilter sense of humor; and the two-hour confabs a bunch of us would have after work at the Elephant & Castle; and a hundred other things. Let there be no doubt, Bill wont be forgotten.

Im very saddened to hear of Bills passing and would like to express my deepest sympathies to his family. Its been 10 years or so since I worked with Bill at Avanade, but we was one of my first true friends and confidants when I joined the company in 2001. I learned a great deal from Bill, including how to balance work and life, how to make lasting friendships in the workplace, how to keep cool in stressful situations, and how to introduce levity at the right times. Rest In Peace, friend, you made a lasting impact on many of us.

I first met Bill in 1982 I think, we went to work for Bank of Boston, International Division as RPG programmers on the IBM S/36. I think we started the same week. We supported and installed this international banking system called DIBS that their office in England had written... good software. We didn't know anybody in Boston, we immediately became really good friends. We quickly found out we were very similar. Hey "do you like to laugh?" yeah!, "You like to drink?" hell yeah! We were both really good coders, we could code and problem solve even when we were hung over.... which was pretty much all the time. They used to call us the "Bills" because we were kinda interchangeable. We used to hang out together every day, every night, even on weekends. He was like a brother to me. I have a lot great to things to say about "Willy" but I'll save them for the celebration. I'm really sorry for your (all of our) loss Karen.

I worked with Bill for a few memorable years at BankBoston on a project called Gateway. We needed Bill on our team for his technical knowledge. Turned out his technical knowledge was far more than expected, but they were just an extra thing he brought too the table. What he really brought was himself, a fantastic human being. Bill has a place in my head and heart and evan though I have not seen him for a while I will miss him.

Karen and Family,
We are heartbroken to hear Bill has left us way too soon. He was a man of such intellect, integrity and incredible easy-going kindness amidst a great sense of humor. We can hear him humming to his favorite songs up in the clouds. So very blessed to have known him.
