LIMA -- Nancy Jo Frey, age 82 of Lima, passed at 9:37 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at St. Rita's Mercy Health. She was born January 31, 1942 in Lima, Ohio to the late Harley and Edith Laman Stombaugh. On August 22, 1964 she married Richard C. Frey who passed on February 6, 2018.
Nancy graduated from Shawnee High School and attended Bowling Green State University. She worked as a secretary at Ford Motor Company before becoming a devoted stay-at-home mother. Later, she worked at Richland Manor, engaging the residents in activities and volunteering at several area nursing homes.
A member of Zion Lutheran Church Lafayette, Nancy was passionate about the outdoors, bird watching, and walking. She cherished her annual fishing trips to Canada and visits to the Outer Banks, where she loved collecting seashells. Nancy enjoyed playing cards with friends, singing in community cantatas, and was known for her excellent cooking, especially her homemade pies.
Family was incredibly precious to Nancy. She adored her grandchildren, attending their sporting events and other activities, often taking them to the park or teaching them how to shop at garage sales and helping her find treasures. She also enjoyed watching sports on TV and was a devoted fan of the Cleveland 'Indians' and Cavaliers.
Nancy is survived by her son, Jerry A. (Carla) Frey of Harrod; two grandchildren, Parker (Breanna) Frey of Columbus, Ohio, and Carter Frey of Harrod, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Sage Leona Frey and Olive Lee Frey; her brother, Ted (Joanne) Stombaugh of Findlay, Ohio; her niece, Paula (Marty) Vernick of Texas; her nephew, Wayne Stombaugh of Missouri; and many cherished friends.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridesville. Rev. Ryan Cordle will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday and from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Zion Lutheran Church Lafayette.
