Violet Buchanan Obituary
Violet was born in Fravel, WA on May 2, 1910 to Bertha & Earl Buchanan. She had 2 younger brothers, Logan & Benny Buchanan, all who preceded her in death.
She attended nursing school at Providence Hospital in Seattle, WA. She began her nursing career working at Childrens Hospital in Seattle, WA. She moved to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1936 and lived there for 15 years while working as a nurse before, during and after the war. She moved back to Washington in 1951 to care for her mother. During that time she attended the University of WA and graduated with a Bachelor of Science deree in 1952. Violet was named the 1st female mayor of Ellensburg, WA in 1956. After he mother passed away she moved to Lodi, where she attended the University of California and achieved her Masters degree in 1962 as well as becoming a public health nurse for the San Joaquin County until her retirement in 1975. Violet served as historian for the friends of Lodi Public Library for 5 years as well as a volunteer for the Library Adult Literacy Program for over 10 years. She loved reading, traveling the world and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Buchanan of Bellevue, WA; nephews Ron Buchanan, Larry Buchanan; nieces Diane Isam & Cheryl Cornelius as well as 12 great nieces and nephews, 21 great, great nieces and nephews and her dear friends.

Violet was my supervisor when I worked as a PHN with San Joaquin County and I enjoyed her knowledge and her compassion. She was quite a lady and I feel blessed to have had her in my life. My condolences to her friends and family.
