SHIRLEY BUNTON Obituary

Shirley Bunton, co-publisher of Rockland County's Rivertown magazine, has died after a short illness at Westchester Medical Center. Her polite British accent and effervescent sense of humor made her a popular figure in Nyack. For many years, she volunteered at Grace's Thrift Shop on South Broadway, where she worked twice a week. Shirley was born in the English fishing village of Leigh on Sea in 1933. After she married Peter Simmons she moved to Canada and gave birth to three children: David, Diana and Jeanette. When her marriage ended she moved to America in 1973 where she met and married magazine editor Phil Bunton. The couple moved to South Nyack in 1984. But it wasn't until September, 2000, that they launched Rivertown magazine, which is currently celebrating its eighth anniversary. She was the first voice everyone heard whenever they called the magazine, and she played a major role in the magazine's success. Shirley is survived by son David Simmons and daughter-in-law Gloria, of St. Catharine's, Ontario, daughter Diana Mclntyre and son-in-law Reg, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, and Jeanette Dailey and son-in-law Ross, of Nyack. She has five much loved grandchildren -Lindsay and Sami Mclntyre; and Peter, Siobhan and Kayla Dailey. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Nyack on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 10 AM. Contributions in Shirley's memory may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, www.bestfriends.org. HANNEMANN FUNERAL HOME, INC. 88 South Broadway Nyack, NY (845) 358-0573
