Walter S. Webber Jr.
Mamaroneck - Walter S. Webber Jr, of Mamaroneck, passed away peacefully January 22, 2020, at 99 years of age. He was born September 2, 1920 to Walter S. Sr. & Maria "Molly" (Daly) Webber. A lifelong resident of Mamaroneck, he attended Rye Neck Schools. Walter was married on September 22, 1946 to the late Ann H. Fengler. The couple raised their four children on Bradley Street in Mamaroneck. Walter was a former Chief of the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department. In 2016 he was honored with a proclamation from Mayor Norman Rosenblum and trustees, Chief Castarella, Schmaling, Primrose and Captain Carl Porretto from Mamaroneck Engine & Hose Co #1, for his 75 years of service with the Village of Mamaroneck. This was an achievement he was most proud of. Walter was a longtime employee if the Duffy Mott Company, Inc. holding various positions, the last being Regional Sales Manager. He also gave many years of service with the Village of Mamaroneck as Assistant Superintendent of Fire Alarms and Superintendent of the Department of Public Works. Not one to remain idle, he worked for 15 years with the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department as a School Crossing Guard on the corner of Mamaroneck & Soundview Avenues. Walter was a life member and former Westchester County representative of the NYS Association of Fire Chiefs. In 1961 the late Congressman, Edwin B. Dooley read the name of Walter S. Webber Jr. into the Congressional Record for his work as Parade Chairman and his overwhelming dedication to the Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department in protecting life and property in the Village. In 2007, Walter was honored by Mayor Phil Triffiletti and Trustees with a proclamation dedicating a tree in the East Basin section of Harbor Island for his many years of service as Park Commissioner. Walter is predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann. He is survived by his cherished children, Gail Webber of Westford, MA, Walter Webber III and his wife Julie of Mamaroneck, Craig Webber (Ret. VOMPD Sgt) and his wife Laurie of Wesley Chapel, FL and Keith Webber and his wife Nancy of Rye Brook. Walter is the proud grandfather of, Jordan and Nicole Webber, Niki & Mike Kennedy, Amanda Webber and Jack Webber and loving great grandfather of, Spencer & Piper Webber. To honor Walter's life, family and friends will gather on Sunday 3-7pm at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME 767 E. Boston Post Rd Mamaroneck, 914-698-5968. Funeral Service Monday 10am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church followed by interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery. Memorial donations can be sent to Village of Mamaroneck Fire Department.
