Xiaochun Luo Obituary

Luo, Xiaochun

Xiaochun Luo of New City passed away peacefully on Wednesday at the age of 57. She was born in Luzhou, China on April 16, 1957 to parents Changyao Guo and Xiuzhang Luo. Xiaochun married her husband Wei Dai in 1985, and came to the US in the same year to pursue her Ph.D. in biochemistry at Purdue University. Xiaochun worked at Proctor & Gamble in various capacities in Cincinnati, Ohio before coming to Avon Products in Suffern, NY, rising to Group Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer for Avon's Global R&D. During her career, Xiaochun was a tireless advocate for increasing participation of women in STEM and a passionate community leader. She served as the founder president for the Chinese American Cosmetics Professional Association (CACPA) and president of the Westchester-Hudson Valley chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans. Xiaochun was honored as a one of "100 Women Leaders in STEM" by STEM Connector, and served as a role model for all. Her love of singing and dancing, alongside her unconquerable spirit and caring nature, will be dearly remembered by those she has left behind. Xiaochun is survived by her husband Wei and her two sons, Byran and Brandon. A viewing will be held from 10 AM to 1 PM today (Saturday) at Hannemann Funeral Home, Inc. in Nyack, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society.

This is really shocking and sad. My deepest sympathy goes to your husband Dai Wei and your families.

Many fond memories as we were at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, studying and partying together. You was one of the most popular members in the biochemistry and biology (and beyond) circle. You were always friendly, helpful, and motivated. We did not know then how poor we were as students, so we were all so happy, rarely having time to worry about anything.

Still remember that class, the Protein-Nucleic Acid Interactions by an Iranian Professor? You were sitting by me and were asking me "what did she say?". Before I could utter a word, the professor shouted at us "dont talk to each other in class. Ask me if you have a question". My face was never that red before or after. We never said a word when her class was in session for the rest of the semester.

You will be always remembered by all of us who are lucky to meet you, to know you...

You have my deepest sympathy for the loss of your beloved wife. May it bring you a measure of peace knowing all that she accomplished. May God also provide your family with peace, strength and loving comfort. (2 Cor. 1:3-7)
