Barbara McHugh Obituary
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry J. and Mary Elizabeth Brown.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Thomas B. McHugh; children, Catherine M. (Jeff) Gross, Thomas B. (Cathy) McHugh Jr., Maureen A. (Craig) Moore, Kevin M. (Julie) McHugh and Colleen E. (Kevin) McGovern; brothers, Forst E. (Joan) Brown, Harry J. (Ilse) Brown Jr., Robert L. (Dianne) Brown and Richard P. Brown; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Louisville, Barbara graduated from St. Joseph's Infirmary School of Nursing after which she joined the Air Force and began her career as a second lieutenant at Maxwell AFB, AL. In 1992, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph's College in Standish, ME. While her life was devoted to raising her children, Barbara's nursing career included pediatric ICU in Louisville and later as director of nursing at Heartland of Beavercreek and Hospitality Homes in Xenia, OH, where she helped open an Alzheimer's Unit. She was a member of the WPAFB Officers' Spouses' Club and volunteered on Tuesdays as day chair at the WPAFB Thrift Shop where she made many lifelong friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at St. Luke Catholic Church, 1440 N. Fairfield Road, Beavercreek. Fr. Terry Schneider is the celebrant. Interment at Calvary Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends at Tobias Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road, 4-8 p.m. Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association. Condolences may be expressed at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.

She was more than my best friend's mother... she was another mother to me. She always made me feel like part of the family and I will always love her for that. She has helped to make me the person that I am today. I love her and I miss her so much!

I have fond memories of Barbara from our high school days at St. Catharine. We were teammates on the basketball team. She was very talented and a great team player. I'll miss her e-mails. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

You are a very special grandmother and were like a second mom to me! I enjoyed and appreciate everything you did with me and feel privileged to have gotten to spend 29 yrs with you.
