Barbara McHugh Obituary

McHUGH, BARBARA J., 77 of Beavercreek, OH, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry J. and Mary Elizabeth Brown.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Thomas B. McHugh; children, Catherine M. (Jeff) Gross, Thomas B. (Cathy) McHugh Jr., Maureen A. (Craig) Moore, Kevin M. (Julie) McHugh and Colleen E. (Kevin) McGovern; brothers, Forst E. (Joan) Brown, Harry J. (Ilse) Brown Jr., Robert L. (Dianne) Brown and Richard P. Brown; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Louisville, Barbara graduated from St. Joseph's Infirmary School of Nursing after which she joined the Air Force and began her career as a second lieutenant at Maxwell AFB, AL. In 1992, she received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph's College in Standish, ME. While her life was devoted to raising her children, Barbara's nursing career included pediatric ICU in Louisville and later as director of nursing at Heartland of Beavercreek and Hospitality Homes in Xenia, OH, where she helped open an Alzheimer's Unit. She was a member of the WPAFB Officers' Spouses' Club and volunteered on Tuesdays as day chair at the WPAFB Thrift Shop where she made many lifelong friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday at St. Luke Catholic Church, 1440 N. Fairfield Road, Beavercreek. Fr. Terry Schneider is the celebrant. Interment at Calvary Cemetery will follow. The family will receive friends at Tobias Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road, 4-8 p.m. Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association. Condolences may be expressed at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.
