Brenda McGrath Obituary

McGrath, Brenda Begley,

52, was taken away from us suddenly and unexpectedly on March 8, 2016. Brenda was born August 22, 1963 in New Albany, IN to Jack L. and Betty B. Begley.

A 1981 graduate of Jeffersonville High School, Brenda completed a certificate in Expanded Duty Dental Assisting at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. It was while working there in 1985 that Brenda met her husband, Mark. They were married after his graduation in 1986. Brenda was a Methodist by faith, and a member of Christ Church United Methodist Church.

Brenda was a proud mother of two sons, Matthew and Daniel. She loved to be involved in their schools, from PTA to fundraising to office volunteer. After her sons moved on to college, Brenda became involved in the Kosair Children's Hospital Festival of Trees and Lights as a co-chair, where her good humor, enthusiasm, and organizational skills were greatly appreciated.

Brenda was a lifelong University of Louisville fan, being a season ticket holder with her husband in basketball for nearly 20 years and football for nearly 30. She travelled to many bowl games with her family, and loved to have her picture taken with her favorite players.

Brenda also loved her "fur babies", rescues Allie and Chloe. She was known throughout her neighborhood for faithfully walking her dogs, often twice a day, in all kinds of weather.

Brenda was the most devoted, thoughtful and loving wife, mother, daughter and sister. Her greatest pride lay in being a wife and mother, and her kindness and grace was immediately evident to everyone she met. Her death has torn a huge hole in the hearts of her family, and the fabric of her extended network of friends.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 30 years, Mark, two sons Matthew and Daniel, parents Jack L. and Betty B. Begley, sister Deborah Herbert (Damon), nephews Curtis and Cameron, and an extensive number of aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.

A service celebrating Brenda's life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday March 19th at Louisville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home East, 11601 Ballardsville Road. Visitation will be Friday March 18th from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Brenda's name to the Woodstock Animal Foundation.

Always a smile, always kind, always focused and efficient as a school volunteer, and as a caring Mom. I am so sorry for your loss, Mark and sons. Brenda's life touched so many.....one of those people who made this world a much better place.

Mark and the boys,
I feel that we had a back seat view of your life for many years as we sat behind you at UL games and watched your family. We saw young boys grow into young men. You all were gracious fans and we loved our time with you. We send our heart felt sympathy to you and pray that you find peace.

I was so saddened to hear of Brenda's passing.
I have wonderful memories of bowling every Tuesday morning at Ten Pins with Grace, Ivanelle, and Brenda. We always had great fun.
She loved her life so much she glowed!
