John Cochran Obituary

Cochran, John Edwin III,

John Edwin Cochran, III or Mickey Cochran as he was widely known throughout his life, passed away at his home in south Louisville during the evening hours of Friday, Feb. 26, 2016.

Mickey was born in Louisville on March 23, 1950 to John Edwin Cochran, II and June Jervis Cochran, their youngest child and only son. Mickey spent his youth experiencing everything life had to offer him, making countless friends and collecting more albums and baseball caps than you can imagine. He had many jobs over the years, trying his hand at everything from hairstyling to firefighting to his most important job, fatherhood.

Mickey was an enthusiastic and loving stay at home father for the first 13 years of his children's lives and also happily acted like a second father to many of their friends throughout the years. Mickey always had a story, a laugh, or a piece of advice for everyone he met. He was also an artist. Everything from reproducing Picasso paintings to refinishing furniture, he loved to create.

Mickey was preceded in death by his loving parents and too many of his close friends. He is survived by two children, Taylor Elise Cochran, 25 and Calvin Kennedy Cochran, 21, sisters Donna Leffler (Harvey), Judy Anderson (Andy) and Linda Malone (Gene) along with all of their children whom he loved as dearly as his own.

A memorial celebration of Mickey's incredible life will be held at Nunnelley Funeral Home, 4327 Taylor Blvd. on Sunday, March 6 from 3 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, please bring all of your stories and photographs of him.

Mickey is a legend to an amazing life that we all should aspire to live. Saying he will be missed, cannot describe the heartache everyone will feel. See ya on the other side friend!

Mickey affected me in a way he will never know. He ALWAYS made me laugh. My very small children could not wait to see him everytime they knew he was working with me. They just loved him. The void will always be in my heart, but the memories are strong. "I always knew looking back on the tears would make me laugh, but I never knew looking back on the laughs would make me cry." I will miss you always. WINK

So sorry to hear about Mickey. He always brought laughter to any event. Many of us will always fondly remember Mickey and his high school experiences with Chester Durbin. He will be missed. Peace be with the family.

My only hope is that I can enjoy life as much as my uncle did, I will forever hear his laugh.
