Michael Curtis Obituary

Curtis, Michael Anthony,

57, of Louisville, passed away August 28, 2015 in his home.

He was born to the late Ann and Bill Curtis, August 13, 1958 in Louisville, KY. Mike graduated from Fairdale High School in 1976 and received a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School in 1982. He married Pamela Nessle Curtis and they were married for 25 years.

Michael was an electrical engineer and computer technician for most of his life. Prior to his death, he was pursuing his Doctorate Thesis at the University of Louisville. He worked for the Naval Ordnance Station as an Engineer on the Phalanx CIWS in defense of our nation. Ever the ingenious tinkerer, he was fascinated by anything, whether it be the insides of a computer tower or a LEGO playset. He was self-employed and worked from home in order to care for his family. His two sons, Jake and Jeff, were beloved by him, proudly and fully. Mike loved to watch them grow up, flourish and shine in their individual and creative talents. He would do absolutely anything to make them happy.

In addition to his interests in science, engineering and technology, Michael was incredibly intrigued by astronomy, exercise, and sports. He loved watching football (Steelers fan), The Simpsons, and no one had a laugh as big and full as his. Always a goofball, he was one to make you smile and keep you engaged in spirited conversation. He never met a stranger. Michael loved animals and kept cats for most of his life. He loved his cat, Pandora, and she was known to follow him throughout their house wherever he went, purring all the way. He did love, was loved and will be forever missed. He lives on through his family and loved ones.

Michael is survived by two children, Jake and Jeff Curtis of Louisville; and his brother, Doug Curtis of Louisville.

His visitation will be from 12-7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Road. A private entombment will be held at Resthaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Humane Society of Louisville. Michael adopted his first cat from the Humane Society for five dollars.

So sorry to hear of Mike's passing, prayers to his family. Mike and Doug grew up in my neighborhood. I later bowled in a league with his mother Ann.

I met Mike 25 years ago when we tried to start up a handheld computer business to help doctors make rounds. Mike programmed an awesome product using a Sharp Wizard and 128 KB of memory. Our product didn't pan out for various reasons but it worked really well and that was thanks to Mike and his amazing programming skills. He subsequently was my tech guru who helped me solve hundreds of computer problems through the years. He was the kindest, most generous person with a great sense of humor and he always made time to help anyone who needed it. I already miss him greatly. Mike set an example for all of us. In his honor I will try to live up to that standard and be a kinder, more generous person. His smile and his laughter will live in my heart forever.

Mike was always a spirit of joy and humor. I missed him a lot when he left NOSL. The world is a sadder place without him.

My favorite times with Mike is the after Holiday Dinner conversations. The stories would be told of Mike and Dougs childhood After all the years of hearing stories, there was always one we hadn't heard before. Sometimes we laugh until we cried. He has left an empty place in my heart and I know Doug will forever miss him. We have lost a part of us that can never be replaced. I hope Mike is with his mom and dad who I know he loved and missed dearly. God Bless you Mike. I love you.

Mike was the most intelligent and kind-hearted man that I have ever met. Over the last few years, he became a part of our family and I believe that he viewed us as the same. He helped my son build his computer from scratch and I saw as much joy in his eyes as they worked together as I did my son's. Though my son is heartbroken and will forever miss talking about electronics and video games with his friend aka/the smartest guy he ever met, he will always have happy memories of how Mike took him under his wing and tried to be a positive role model for him. Mike also was an incredible friend to my father and they would talk several times a week for hours on end. It is a void that will never be replaced in my dad's life. He was never ashamed of who he was or how he felt. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, he always told me that he prayed for me every day and that there wasn't anything that he wouldn't do for our family. And that was the truth. He always gave and gave and would never expect anything in return. Mike Curtis was a stand up guy full of integrity, wit, and knowledge. We will miss his conversation and insight, we will miss his help, we will miss his humor, we will miss him.

Mike was a beloved friend to Greg McCoy, Leslie, Kieran, and Riley Bowers, and myself. We have know him for more than 20 years as both a friend and in a working relationship. But he was more a friend...he was extremely intelligent, funny, and witty. He helped my grandson, Kieran, build an extremely awesome gaming computer - they both had such fun doing this together. Mike loved us unconditionally and we loved him back in the same manner. He loved his sons and wanted them to be the bright stars that he knew they could be. Greg will miss his long conversations with him during the week and the close friendship they held. Our world and the world as a whole will be a much emptier place without Mike in it. Mike had a deep faith and prayed a lot, as he often told me. Mike, we will meet again under much happier circumstances. We love you!
