Edward Killeen Obituary

Edward John Killeen
May 29th, 1949 -- April 5th, 2012

AYER -- Edward Killeen, 62, of Ayer, passed away April 5, 2012, as a result of a two-year battle with cancer. His friends and family were by his side when he drifted off to be with the Lord.

He was born to Robert and Bessie Killeen of Billerica, MA on May 29th, 1949. Ed was an alumnus of Billerica Memorial High School.

Ed proudly served our country as a radar technician for the Army during the Vietnam War while stationed in Korea. Through his training he became involved in software diagnostics and eventually became a computer programmer for Wang Laboratories.

In addition to programming and mechanics, he also enjoyed sailing, camping, playing chess, writing, drawing, playing guitar, and carving walking sticks. He loved spending time with those around him and could pass numerous hours recounting many great stories from his life. His optimism through tough times is a quality he will always be remembered for.

Ed is survived by his parents, Robert and Bessie Killeen; his brother, David Killeen; his sister, Mary Ann Broden (Killeen); his sister, Wendy Wright (Killeen); his ex-wife, Diane Killeen; their son, Robert Killeen and his wife, Bethany and daughter, Brynlee; their son, Brian Killeen and his wife, Natalie; and their son, Christopher Killeen.

KILLEEN -- A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 15th at 1 pm in the 1st Congregational Church in Billerica, the church he attended with his family and had volunteered at as the youth group spiritual leader. At a later date, a private burial ceremony will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans' Cemetery in Agawam. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to The Jimmy Fund.

To the extended Killeen Family; I was saddened to her of Ed's passing. I knew him when we were in Pilgrim Fellowship together. As the youth group presented the Flowering of the Cross service at the 1st Congregational in Billerica this morning I placed my flower in memory of a great friend. My belief is that he is in heaven watching over all his loving family members. God bless and remember the the stories and pass them along to future generations.

I had the privilege of meeting Ed only a time or two, but I know Rob pretty darn well, and based on what a wonderful man Rob is, everything he wrote about his dad must be true. Chris and I send our deepest condolences to Rob, Bethany and Bryn, but we know that fond memories and the love of your family and friends will sustain you during this difficult time.
Love you... Jan and Chris Heinrichs
