John Brooks Haberl
Devoted husband and father

CHELMSFORD -- John Brooks Haberl, 81, recently of Chelmsford, and formerly of Dalton, MA and Sebastian, FL, passed away on November 27, 2012, at the Westford House Nursing Home.

He was the beloved husband of Gladys (Bateson) Haberl to whom he was married for 56 years.

He was born in Denver, CO on October 25, 1931 and was the son of the late John Mayer Haberl and Helen LaVella (Biggs) Haberl. Brooks graduated from New Mexico State University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War.

After being honorably discharged in 1954, Brooks spent his entire career as a Mechanical Engineer at General Electric, working for 38 years until his retirement in 1996.

During that time, Brooks served for many years both on the vestry at Grace Episcopal Church in Dalton and also on the Dalton town planning board.

In 1996, Brooks and Gladys moved to Sebastian, FL where he enjoyed spending time on the water and in his boat. He was an avid fisherman and bridge player.

Brooks was a member of the American Legion for over 46 years.

In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by a son Karl Robert Haberl and his wife Cathy of Tyngsboro, and a daughter Karen Haberl Marchand and her husband Dave of Tyngsboro; his cherished grandchildren; Collin Haberl and his wife Rebecca, Heather Haberl, Jordan Haberl, and Evan Haberl, and his precious great-granddaughter Autumn Haberl. He also leaves his siblings Arthur Haberl, Barbara Marshall, Celina Stertz, and Joan Bahur.

HABERL -- JOHN BROOKS. Visiting hours will be TODAY from 4 to 8 p.m. at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD. His Funeral Service will be on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church, 10 Billerica Rd., Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment at 1:30 pm in the New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH. Funeral Director, Paul A. Hardy, Jr. For those who desire, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
