Beloved Husband, Father

and Grandfather

LOWELL -- Robert L. "Bob" Avila, 83, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017, at his family home in Lowell, following a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Lorraine M. (Travers) Avila, with whom he recently celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Bob was born in Lowell, on August 16, 1933, a son of the late Manuel and Edith (Wormall) Avila. Educated in the Lowell Schools, Bob was a graduate of Lowell High School and a member of the Lowell High Athletic Booster Club.

Bob was retired from General Motor Co., in Framingham, where he worked for 30 years as a member of UAW Local 422.

He and his wife raised their family in Pawtucketville and was a communicant of St. Rita's Parish in Lowell and Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Morrisville, VT.

Bob loved spending time with his family during the holidays. He also enjoyed family trips to Florida and visiting historical sites throughout the eastern Unites States. Bob had a great love of family, especially for his grandchildren, cherishing the time he was able to spend with them.

Bob was handy around the house, both in Lowell and Vermont and could build or repair almost anything. He enjoyed gardening and maintaining his yard. He was very proud of his retirement home in Vermont, which he designed and built with the help of his two sons.

Bob was the father of the late Robert Edward Avila.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine M. Avila of Lowell; his children; Kevin B. Avila and his wife Kimberly A. Avila of Hudson, MA, Cheryl A. Driscoll and her husband Thomas J. Driscoll of Methuen, Stephen L. Avila of Lowell; his seven grandchildren, Kelly Pelkey and her husband David, Meaghan Driscoll, Ryan Driscoll, Erin Driscoll, Alissa Alden and her husband Brian, Derek Avila and William Avila. He also leaves many dear friends.

AVILA -- In Lowell, August 13, 2017, at his home, Robert L. Avila, 83, beloved husband of Lorraine M. Avila. It being his wish, there will be no calling hours. Memorial funeral services will take place at a later date.
