Robert A. Rosenbaum

1944 - 2022

Robert A. Rosenbaum, 78, of Wanatah passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022, at the University of Chicago Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Aug. 28, 1944, in La Porte to the late Arthur and Kathryn (Parthun) Rosenbaum. Bob graduated from Wanatah High School in 1963.

As a lifelong farmer, Bob enjoyed finding creative solutions, modifying equipment around the farm and being a self-taught Mr. Fix-It.

He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wanatah, serving on many boards and as elder. The faith that Bob had in the Lord helped comfort him as he cared for his loving wife as she suffered through Alzheimer's. Since Joyce's battle, Bob took on all that she did and more to ensure all those he loved were taken care of.

Bob found enjoyment in maintaining the yard, taking care of the flowers, traveling throughout the U.S. to places such as Yellowstone to see the pine trees, and going on daily rides through the countryside and wherever the road led them – such as to grab a coffee and favorite doughnut.

Robert was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend; always calling and checking in on his family, but his most endearing sentiment was caring for his bride of 58 years.

In 1964, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Joyce (Spier) Rosenbaum, who survives, along with their children, Cary Rosenbaum and Cory (Missy) Rosenbaum; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Colton and Chase; siblings, Arnold Rosenbaum, William (Gerry) Rosenbaum and Mary Jane Bailey; brothers-in-law, LeRoy "Doc" Koselke and Jim (Jan) Spier; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Janet Koselke and Peg Sallee; and sister-in-law, Nancy Rosenbaum.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 309 N. Main St., Wanatah. A service will be held on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 15496 S. 900 W., Wanatah; Rev. Joel Steven Zipay officiating, with additional visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
