Leonard White Obituary

Leonard J. White

Holt

Leonard passed away on October 26, 2015, shortly after his 92nd birthday. He was born on October 15, 1923 in the Upper Peninsula near Hardwood, a true "Yooper" at heart. Leonard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II in the South Pacific working with the Seabees. Following his service, he married the love of his life after proclaiming he would marry her the first time he laid eyes on her. Leonard was a loyal member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 333 for over 55 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Detroit Lions, all Michigan State sports and being with his family.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 64 years Elayne (2010) and their beloved son Robert (1975). Surviving are his daughter Cheryl, son William (Deb); grandchildren Rob, Ken (Beth), Celeste (Kim), Lori (Ken), Jenny (James) and Andy; great grandchildren Angel, Kyle, Chandler, Madyson, Hayden, Lauren and great-great grandson Jayce along with countless close family and friends.

Leonard proudly shared his birthday with his first grandchild Rob and his first great-grandchild Angel. The family was able to celebrate that day with him the week before he passed.

Leonard would want to thank Wilma, Jayna and Steve Akright for watching over him for 5 years as loving and attentive neighbors; Sonny and Debbie Olson for the special lifelong friendship they shared; Denny and Kaye Cody for always coming over to see him and spend time with him (and the good home cooking Kaye), Jon and Sharon Morley for visiting him every year from Sugar Island, even when they had to bum a ride with their kids Steve and Shelly and Aggie; and the late Robert (Wieser) Massie for being the Fred and Ethel to he and Elayne's Ricky and Lucy.  He loved you all and his family will never forget you!

The family will have a private service for family and close friends at a future date to join Leonard and Elayne's ashes at their son Bob's grave. This was the only thing they both insisted on when discussing end of life planning. In his memory, please crack a beer and share your favorite Leonard story to keep his memory alive.
