Charles Garrett Obituary

Charles O. Garrett LUBBOCK-Memorial services for Charles O. Garrett, 86, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Lake Ridge Chapel. Family graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Charles died peacefully at home on Easter Sunday, April 16, with family and friends present. Charles was born on Dec. 29, 1930, in Plainview, Texas, to Max E. and Edith Babb Garrett. After graduating from San Angelo High School in 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served for four years. He loved music and played trombone in high school and continued as a trombonist in the Navy Band. He enrolled at Texas Tech in 1952, and married Marietta Cantrell on May 14, 1953, in Clovis, NM. After his graduation from Tech in 1957, he worked for Johns-Manville Corporation until his retirement. He was a longtime member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Wanda Woods and Betty Hunter. Charles is survived by Mari, his wife of 64 years; daughter, Terri McIlraith and husband, Mike of Fort Worth; son, Todd Garrett and wife, Ashley of Midland; son, David Garrett and wife, Shannon of Lubbock; and seven grandchildren: Michael McIlraith of Los Angeles; Cody Garrett and wife, Tanya of Ruidoso, NM; Brandon Garrett and wife, Megan of Fort Worth; Mason Garrett and Colton Garrett of Lubbock; Claire Garrett and Brock Garrett of Midland; and one great-grandchild, Kal Garrett of Fort Worth; and one great-grandchild on the way. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Lubbock. The family would like to express their gratitude to the following individuals from Hospice of Lubbock: Elizabeth Abraham, Ruth Simmons, Veronica Buescher, Yvette Casias, Carol Satterwhite, Dr. Jeremy Brown, and Judy Krchmar.
