John Walton Obituary

John S. Walton, Jr. LUBBOCK-John S. Walton, Jr. of Lubbock joined his Lord in Heaven on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life of 75 years today, Nov. 17, 2015, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church. John was born on Dec. 22, 1939, to John S. Walton, Sr. and Clara Anderson Walton in Knox City, Texas. John grew up in Rochester, Texas, where his parents owned the Walton Drug Store, and he moved to Lubbock, Texas, in 1958 to attend Texas Tech University where he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1962. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and Saddle Tramps. John married Sandra Oates on June 17, 1962, with whom he had two children, Wayne Walton and Wendy Walton. Sandra preceded John in death on Oct. 26, 1988. John married Wanda McAfee, formerly of Munday, Texas, on Nov. 12, 1989, in Lubbock, Texas. John owned Century 21 John Walton Realtors and proudly served the Lubbock real estate community for over 40 years. John also served as a Director at First Bank & Trust for approximately 15 years. From 2001 through 2007, John served on the Texas Real Estate Commission, and in 2004 he was appointed Chairman of the Commission by Governor Rick Perry. John served as the President of the Texas Association of Realtors and the Lubbock Association of Realtors in 1999 and 1981, respectively, and he also held various leadership positions with both organizations. John was a very active member of the community and was a proud member of the Khiva Shrine Temple, Lubbock Scottish Rite, Lubbock York Rite, Yellowhouse Masonic Lodge, South Plains Shrine Club, the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Tech Chancellor's Club and various other Texas Tech organizations. John loved spending time with his family and taught them to enjoy life through his love of travelling, golf, snow skiing, supporting Texas Tech, dancing, blackjack and the work he did in the real estate industry. John was a kind and loving Christian family man, and he was known to many as a friend, mentor, boss, and community leader. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Walton; their children, Wayne Walton and wife, Dana, Wendy Walton and husband, Todd Snyder, Montie McAfee and wife, Teresa, and Kyle McAfee and wife, Teri; grandchildren, Brianna and Brooke Walton, Grace and Bailey Snyder, Kayla, Kameron, and Jordyn McAfee, and Brianna, Patricia, and Jacob Garcia. My prayers are with your entire family. I wish I had met him before he passed!
I grew up watching his show and fell in love with the family! I was also raised in a large family household. My Grandmother was with us and five of her eight children, plus my moms four,
we did without many times which made us stronger than most!
I'm greatful he kept writing and gave us the Waltons on TV!
Always he and his family will remain my heart and soul with all those from Waltons Mountain!
He was born the same year as my Mother, who passed suddenly in 1998, way to soon!
I miss her and will forever miss you Dear John Boy!
Your friend

I'm very sad to hear that John Boy has passed away! I grew up watching the Waltons and conected with it right away! We grew up in a big family and often did without! I'm so greatful for his stories and sharing them with the world! I never realized that he was the one who created the show until now!
The whole family are like mine in many ways. You are all in my prayers and I envy each one that was so close to him, wish I could have met him! He was born the same year as mother who passed way to early, in 1998.
I pray for all of you, to be blessed in life and never forget him, or the rest of the people from Waltons Mountain!
Always your friend
