JAMES SHIELDS James Joseph Shields, 85, of Las Vegas, passed away Aug. 25, 2014. He was born March 30, 1929, in Los Angeles, to Jack Shields and Josephine Knight. James graduated from Mount Carmel High School in Los Angeles from which he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. While in the service, James earned two medals, the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He met the love of his life, Alice Shields, in 1960 and was married Sept. 17, six months later. They moved to Las Vegas in 1974 to raise their three children, Susan, John and Patrick. James was a retired FAA inspector, avid University of Notre Dame football fan, bowler, golfer, card player and auto enthusiast. A devout Catholic, he regularly attended mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and volunteered for various ministries in the church. James enjoyed making people laugh and was always willing to lend an open hand to those in need. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, in the Chapel at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Summerlin, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive, Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the V Foundation for Cancer Research.
