JUANELLE MATHIS

1934 - 2017

Juanelle Bairrington Mathis, 82, passed away on February 9, 2017, at her home in Las Vegas, Nev. surrounded by family. Juanelle was born December 2, 1934, in Tahoka, Tex., to Benjamin and Della Pearl Bairrington, their only daughter of four children. She moved to Las Vegas in 1971 with husband Joseph and her four daughters.

Juanelle was known for her cooking. She shared her love by cooking for her family, friends and even strangers. At Christmas time, she baked 100s of cookies and made candy for all. As a waitress, she worked many places, including Caesar's Palace, Binion's Horseshoe, and as a previous owner of the Food Counter at the White Cross Drug Store on Las Vegas Blvd. She was nicknamed ""Flash.""

Besides cooking, she loved fishing, gardening, sewing and playing cards. As a tradition, she had created hand-made Christmas stockings for everyone in the family. They will be cherished by all as a token of her love and family devotion. Juanelle was a feisty lady who loved her family, friends, and life. The void in our lives is only tempered by us knowing she is pain-free in heaven now.
She was preceded in death by her daughter LaDonna Blake, her parents, brothers Bill, Benjamin, and Glynn, and grandchildren Angela Stewart-Cott and Bradley Stewart. She is survived by daughters JoNell (Gary) Rubyor (LaNetta Bueoy, Tanya Santa Cruz, Kasie Fore), Lucretia Corral (Jason Randall, Joseph, Jena), Tamye (Michael) Holloway (David Dowler, Breyre, Maitlyn), LaDonna's daughter Chelsea, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Juanelle's service will be at Spring Valley Baptist Church at 10 am on Friday, February 17. Immediately following the service there will be a time of fellowship in the church hall. Private burial will be at a later date.
