MARIE PAIGE

MARIE PAIGE Marie Charlotte Paige, 83, of Las Vegas, passed away Feb. 24, 2013, surrounded by her family. Marie was born in Milbank, S.D., the youngest of eight children. She lived her early adult years in Minneapolis, but in 1969, after one too many cold winters, she moved her family west to Las Vegas. Marie loved the sunshine and took great pride in having a perfectly manicured lawn and beautiful palm trees that, up until last year, she would trim with her own chainsaw. She was fiercely independent and had a marvelous, quirky sense of humor. Marie was always up for a practical joke on an innocent victim and enjoyed her regular card game with close friends and family. A self-taught piano player, Marie played professionally in Minneapolis, and continued to play almost daily at home on her baby grand. Few people knew she couldn't read a single musical note. For 28 years, Marie took pride in managing the Flamingo Pecos Plaza, but finally retired in 2011. Perhaps Marie's greatest joy was the birth of her grandchildren, when she became "Mimi" to her beloved Madison and Lindsay. Marie is survived by two granddaughters, Madison and Lindsay Paige; daughters, Connie Wheeler and Gretchen Thacker; son, Horace Paige and daughter-in-law, Kay Lynn Paige, all of Las Vegas; daughter, Kathy Norton and son-in-law, Robert Norton, both of Northridge, Calif.; and brother, Urban Stolpman of Ortonville, Minn. Marie was also a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews. Services will be private for family and friends.
