WILLIAM SCHOFIELD Obituary

DR. WILLIAM SCHOFIELD JR. William Jay Schofield Jr., 54, of Las Vegas passed away suddenly July 19, 2014, in Alamo. He was born Nov. 21, 1959, to Jay and Bonnie Schofield in Caliente. Bill was raised in Las Vegas and Hiko and graduated from the University of Nevada-Reno Medical School before establishing his medical practice in Henderson. He married his former wife, Laurie Heaton, while in college and they are the parents of six children. Bill was a gifted and well-respected internist who loved his patients and staff and was in-turn loved by them. Dr. Schofield was renowned for his diagnostic abilities and received many honors throughout his career. Bill was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in several leadership positions. Bill's philosophy was to live life to the fullest. He felt blessed and fortunate to have found his eternal companion, Shelley Garrett, with whom he was able to share his love of travel, adventure and service for the past 12 years. Although they shared a blended family, there was never "his" or "hers," it was always "ours." A highlight of his life was spending time with his entire family, who the grandchildren affectionately referred to as "Papa Bill." He was always young at heart and used any excuse to take family and friends to Disneyland or Hawaii, two of his favorite places. He was preceded in death by grandson, Grayson Phillips. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Shelley; parents, Jay and Bonnie; siblings, Julie (Marshall) Davis, Karen Robinson and Robert (Trish) Schofield; and children, Rikki (Erik) Phillips, William III "Trae" (Brianna), Charles "Kelly," Robert "Ryan" (Paula), Skyler and Jesse; and stepchildren, Alisha (Josh) Brandon, Carli (Dan) Sandoval and Christy (Zach) Martin; and 17 grandchildren. Viewing will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 25. Viewing again 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 26, with services following at 11 a.m., all at the LDS Robindale Chapel, 7670 S. Bruce St., Las Vegas. Burial will follow at Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the William J. Schofield Memorial Fund at any branch of Wells Fargo Bank. Donations will be dispersed to his favorite charities.

Dr. Schofield and I share the same birthdate only I was born in 52 and also raised in Hilo for some years. Moved to Vegas then moved to Oahu where I live. He is sorely missed and he treated me for everything and anything, and also got me through my cancer treatments.

I remember asking our realtor if she knew of a good Dr in town. She proudly announced, "why yes, my nephew, Bill Schofield". So this newcomer called and made that 1st appt. Nervous that first visit, I asked the Lord to give me a sign if this was who we were to see When Dr. Nephew entered the treatment room he filled the doorway and I began to giggle. He asked if I was nervous and I answered not anymore You see I asked the Lord to give me a sign if you are who we're to see and you most certainly are; you see you could be my Dr's twin in Vacaville, .CA except Terry Van Aken is only 5 ft 9 inches! Then we both laughed That was 2000 at Whitney Ranch and we became fast friends. I will miss him so.

You took care of my mom, and cared about her as a person. She recently got insurance and couldn't find you I find you. I had to tell her you passed and she cried. A physician with a kind heart and true compassion for their patients is a rare thing. I wish my mother could have meet with you one last time. May you rest in peace....

I just found out my long time Doctor passed away and I cannot find the words to express my heartfelt sadness. I not only saw Dr. Schofield as a patient I also worked in the hospital and took care of so many of his patients. He was amazing...so kind, warm, smart...the list can go on and on. I will miss him tremendously. I moved out of state, was looking for a phone number to contact his office to get my records when I read this news. God Bless you Dr. Schofield. <3

I was on the fence for the MDVIP program. The first doctor I visited didn't really impress me. I was asked by MDVIP to try another doctor, and they suggested Dr. Schofield.

I'm very happy they did. Dr. Schofield was the kind of doctor I spent years wishing I could find. He went beyond the simple q & a aspect of a relationship and became invested in my health. His recommendations impacted my diet, exercise and even the shoes I wore. He became a trusted advisor in my life.

The real test came when my teenage son fell ill during the Swine Flu breakout. I was out of town for work, but my ex had no problem walking our son into Dr. Schofield's office the same day. Dr. Schofield diagnosed my son with Swine Flu and treated him for literally hours. When my ex called to say she was still at the office, I couldn't believe how much time he had spent with them. He was there for us during a scary time. He even spent another 30 minutes assuring me over the telephone that all was well.

I returned from abroad and began the process of picking up MDVIP to schedule an appointment with Dr. Schofield. I learned today he had passed. It's a shock and sad to hear we lost such a dedicated professional. I'm dreading tell my son, as I think Dr. Schofield was the only doctor he liked.

My condolences to the family. I'm sure we only saw a fraction of what I great man he was. Know that he was appreciated and respected. He cared for his patients. He will be the standard to which I hold all other doctors.

Dr. Schofield was my husband's doctor for many years and his son Kelly was a good friend of our son, Aaron, while growing up in Green Valley. I am so sorry to hear of his sudden passing. Although he was not my doctor, back in July 2011 when I was very sick and was in the ICU at St Rose Dominican, my husband ran into him at the hospital. He went out of his way to help my husband understand what was happening and saw to it that I was well cared for. We are all better for knowing him. He will be missed.

September 7, 2014

My heart goes out to the Schofield family. I attended school in Alamo with Billy and was in the same class with his sister, Julie.
Billy had such a wonderful family as a boy with such great parenting by Jay and Bonnie. I was so proud of him knowing he became a great doctor and had such a huge family and following. I still remembering him playing basketball and being the most kind and gentle young man. You will be missed so much.

Dr S, I miss you more than I can say. You cross my mind every single day and I would do anything for one of your big bear hugs. You welcomed me right out of school and reminded me that kindness does still happen in Dr's. Your smile made my day and when you came to the hospital after Tristan was born and picked him up, I was so grateful. Nobody will ever replace you . I can only hope that one day ill get a big hug from you once more and I know ill hear you say "how's it going kid?" love you Dr S.

I trained with Bill at UMC in the late 80's. We were in the same class and have lots of memories about those days. Always cheerful and well loved by everybody. He has been a friend to me over the years. We would occasionally sit down in St Rose Siena Hospital doctor's lounge for breakfast and just chat. In fact that is my last memory of him prior to his untimely death. I am very saddened at this loss. My condolences to his entire family.

My husbands thoughts and prayers go out too his entire family. He will be missed so very much.

My husband and I met William back in 1996. A wonderful friend of ours Christina introduced us. When we found out that he was a Doctor, we were thrilled as all of the Doctors that we had gone to were just OK. When we met William, we were overjoyed. He was not just a Dr. he was a human being. He was kind and witty and gentle and honest, but above all he was understanding.

One night, and I will never forget this, my husband had a very high fever. I called William in a panic. It was after hours. He, instead of us going to the ER had us meet him at his office and personally gave my husband his attention. This was at 9pm at night. You see William did not want us to spend the thousands of dollars going to the ER as he knew that we at that time were going through hard times. That is the kind and gentle soul that William was. It was the friend and then the patient that he treated. He made us feel like we were a part of the family.

May God hold his family in his hands and give them all peace. Knowing that William is in the arms of his loving father.

Our thoughts & prayers go out to his loving family and the entire MDVIP staff.

I knew Dr. Schofield from the beginning of his medical career as a resident at UMC. He was unlike any of the other doctors ... no "Holier than Thou" attitude!! I also worked with him at Urgent Care where everyone loved him. I chose him to be my family's doctor because of his down to earth, caring & gentle bedside manner, in addition to his medical expertise. He helped me through a very difficult illness and made me feel as though I was his only patient. My husband and I will remember him always with fondness and gratitude. Who can possibly fill his shoes?

My thoughts and Prayers are with the Schofield family. I was sad to hear the news of Dr. Schofield's passing. He was my doctor for many years when I lived in Henderson. I remember when he decided to going Conscierage practice so he could spend the time he wanted with his patients. Whenever I went to see him we would catch up on things with our family's for the first 10-15 minutes and then we would talk about what I was there to see him for. A very compassionate man who I had so much respect for. He always made time for me, whether in the office or on the phone. Such a dedicated family man and always there for his patients. May God Bless the Schofield family during this difficult time.

We First met Dr. Bill in Jan of 1990,when he joined the practice of Dr. Joseph DeBellis in Boulder City. He eventually took over an office in Henderson on Lake Mead. He saw me and my husband and my dad. He saw my dad Frank Nelson, through lung cancer, through his death in 1993. He was so compassionate at a very difficult time in our lives! My office relocated to Las Vegas and Dr. Debellis opened an office on Goldring so I started to see Dr. Debellis and continued seeing him until he retired in 2012. Dr. Debellis kept me informed about Dr. Schofield's life over the years as I always loved Dr. Schofield and wanted the best for him and his family. When Dr. DeBellis retired I went back to Dr. Bill at his concierge practice. It was a new experience for me. Only 600 patients at a time! Dr. Schofield was as wonderful as ever and he told me about his great life and his fantastic "Shelley!" I last saw him on July 7, 2014, for test results. they were so good. I asked him about retiring and he said nope, he would probably die in his practice! I asked if he was in good health and he said absolutely! We love you Dr. Bill! God Bless You!! Till We Meet Again in Heaven.. You will always be in our HEARTS..

Our deepest sympathy is lovingly sent to the family, friends and staff of Dr. Schofield. We feel truly blessed to have known Dr. Schofield both as our doctor and friend. Dr. Schofield was a gifted, caring and compassionate doctor and diagnostician beyond compare! Most people dread going to a doctor, but we actually looked forward to every visit with him. We knew once we were seated next to the "Doc" that we had his full time and attention, and he would get to the bottom of whatever was troubling us. Be comforted by wonderful memories and the knowledge that this truly great man is now tenderly embraced in the loving arms of our Savior and the beautiful light of eternity.

Dr. Schofield touched so many people with his wit, intelligence and silly sense of humor. But most of all his compassion for his fellow man. It takes a very special person to become the kind of man, physician, friend and family person that encompassed all of him. It is unfortunate and indescribably sad to have lost such a person so young and full of life. We will miss him very much. Our prayers and heart felt condolences are sent to his family and his Concierge Care "family." Thank you for all you have done and continue to do.

Dr. Schofield will never be forgotten. He was the most considerate,
gentle, caring and concerned physician my husband and I had ever met.
He was medically thorough and competent and made his patients
feel as though each and every one of us were his very special and favortite. A rare talent, indeed.
My condolences to his large family, it is tragic to lose someone so loved with so much life left to live. I hope the family finds
comfort with each other and their religious believes.
I also offer my condolences to his office staff. A superb group who made you feel you were being entertained and primed for
a party, not an examination. My heart aches for everyone concerned.
Long live Dr. Schofield's memory, his good deeds and his love of what he did.
One day, when I revisit Henderson, it would be my greatest pleasure to see Horizon Ridge renamed Schofield Drive, MD.
