Donald Allan (Don) Watson
August 26, 2022
Milledgeville, Georgia - Donald (Don) Allan Watson of Milledgeville, Georgia passed away August 26, 2022.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patti Rustin Watson; his children; Pam Walton (Anthony), Shelley Watson-Kapadia (Aakash), and Jack Watson (Jordie); his grandchildren; Samuel Walton, John Walton, Abigail Walton, Ben Walton, and Reya Kapadia; his sister, Barbara Gebert Milton; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy Mable Buckle Watson and Robert Arthur Watson; his brother-in-law, Bob Gebert; and his "adopted brother", Lee Wayne Foux
Don emanated God's love. He lived through gentle example and left this world with no regrets and no unfinished business.
Don was born on June 16, 1946 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He graduated from Kelvin High School and attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He graduated in 1968 earning a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in biology.
While attending Lamar University, Don lived with a large, loving, Cajun family headed by Levi and Velma Foux and Marie Perkins in China, Texas. The family adopted him as one of their own, thus creating a lifelong extended family; Lee Wayne Foux, Cathey Foux, Janelle Foux (Shawn), Nancy Perkins Yancey (Jerry) and Connie Perkins Hartt.
He went on to work in Alaska as a lumberjack for a few years before attending Washington State University where he earned a second bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology in 1973 and a master's degree in Environmental Engineering in 1974. Don loved his career as an environmental engineer which revolved around protecting Mother Earth.
He was married to Patrica (Patti) Watson on December 20, 1986.
Where Don found the most joy was at home with his family who were the lights and loves of his life. Don was his family's North Star. He led his family as Christ led his church… with love, tenderness, service, patience and sacrifice. He was fiercely proud of the esteemed character instilled in his children and their spouses. He loved spending time with them, but absolutely delighted in the company (and accolades) of his grandchildren.
Don served as a protector through his career as well. For over fifty years he traveled the globe teaching health, safety and industrial hygiene standards for the protection of workers and Mother Earth. He retired from DNV Industries, but continued to consult through his private company.
He was a deacon of Harmony Baptist Church where he attended regularly until the advent of Covid. Don had many hobbies:
He was fascinated with birds and could identify each species by appearance or call. He loved sports and always reached for the sports page first when offered a newspaper. Don's musical taste included R&B and jazz. He was a human Google search when asked about sports or musical artist. Don absolutely enjoyed cooking and was lovingly teased that Kroger was his mistress because he visited "her" so often.
A Canadian citizen by birth, Don was naturalized and became a US citizen last year. He was proud to be a dual citizen of his homeland and his adopted country. He was a lifelong legendary sneezer. He never sneezed once, rather one sneeze led to twenty or thirty consecutive sneezes… followed by laughs all around! Don was a uniquely, beautiful soul and will be infinitely missed.
The family would like to thank the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville for Don's excellent medical care in recent years, as well as the staff of MICU West at Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center for their tender ministrations toward Don and the entire family during his final month.
