Hugh Jacobs Obituary

Hugh Carlton Jacobs

September 23, 1941 - February 22, 2024

Macon, Georgia - Hugh Carlton Jacobs was born September 23, 1941 in Macon, Georgia to Hugh M. Jacobs and Sarah Dove Hodges Jacobs, and he passed away February 22, 2024.

He lived in Macon, GA most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby I. Hatcher Jacobs, paternal grandparents Walter Lee Jacobs and Emma Bell Williams Jacobs, maternal grandparents Joseph Edward Hodges and Lola Alice Wade Hodges, sister Robin Cheryl Jacobs McLean, and granddaughters Ashley Jacobs, Angel Howard, and Hope Howard.

Survivors include children, Faith Denise Jacobs Cubas Peck, Macon, GA, Brenda Jacobs Howard (Richard), St. Mary's, GA, Hugh Jacobs, Jr. (Cindy), Jupiter, FL, William Jacobs (Jennie), High Springs, FL, Benjamin Jacobs (Patty), Twiggs County, GA; sister Barbara Jacobs Bedgood, Kentucky, Brother Terry Bennett (Marlene), Valdosta, GA, 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

Hugh attended Charles Bruce Elementary School, Lanier High School, Dudley Hughes High School, Macon College, and Macon Tech.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many positions there, including Counsellor to Bishop, Clerk, Auditor, Primary Teacher, Sunday School Teach, Elders Quorum President, and High Priest Group Leader.

Hugh worked in the Boy Scouts programs for over forty years in many leadership positions, including as course director for the Wood Badge course. He received the District Award of Merit, and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award and many other awards. He served in the U.S. Army with an honorable discharge. He was a Master Mason and served as the Worshipful Master.

He worked in construction all his life and was a "jack of all trades." He worked with his father, learning to paint and build. He worked as a teenager building houses, worked for Acoustic of Macon for many years and for Schell Acoustical and Drywall for the last seven years before retiring due to health problems. He was General Superintendent at both companies.

Throughout his lifetime, Hugh always helped others as much as possible. He worked on many service projects for the church, the Christmas in April program, and Neighbors Helping Neighbors programs. He would do repairs on church members' and neighbors' houses at no charge. He liked the scripture, "When you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me." Hugh loved everybody and treated them with love.

He often said his greatest blessings were joining the church and becoming a true disciple of Jesus Christ, and meeting his wife, whom he loved with all his heart. He loved his children and grandchildren and felt they were blessings from God.

Viewing and visitation will be on Tuesday, February 27, from 6-8 pm at Macon Memorial Park, 3969 Mercer University Dr., Macon, GA 31204. Funeral will be on Wednesday at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1624 Williamson Rd., Macon, GA 31206. With a wry sense of humor, Hugh made working with him enjoyable. He is missed, but we all know he is in a much better place. Rest in Peace, Hugh.
