Alfred Laurence Kroll

STOUGHTON - Alfred Laurence "Al" Kroll, age 93, of Stoughton, formerly of Beloit, Wis., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022, at Stoughton Meadows Assisted Living. He was born at home on the family farm on Jan. 14, 1929, in Stoddard, Wis., the son of Alfred Kroll and Elsie (Shoults) Kroll. He was baptized into God's family as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Al served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a radio operator. He worked for many years at AJ Sweet & Co., in Madison, Wis. Al was an amazing salesman, was dedicated to his clients, and they all loved him.
Al was united in marriage to Marion Waller on June 20, 1987, until her untimely death on Jan. 6, 1998. They loved spending time together, dancing and being with their blended family.
Al had a strong faith in Jesus as his Savior. He lived and died confident in his salvation. He was an active member of Western Koshkonong Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove, Wis., where he served in many positions as well his favorite - singing in the choir and at nursing homes. He was a loyal Packers fan, he loved playing ping pong and horseshoes, and he kept a beautiful garden for years. He even went around town selling his raspberries, fresh from the backyard. Al loved to sing and dance. Al was a happy person and made a joyful impression wherever he went. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Al is survived by his sons, Tracy (Tessa) Kroll of Tyler, Texas, Cary Kroll of Beloit, Wis., Daniel (Karen) Kroll of Lilongwe, Malawi, Africa; daughter, Constance (Mark) Paustian of New Ulm, Minn.; son-in-law, Michael Martin of Bradenton, Fla.; stepdaughters, Teri (Gary) Miller, Stoughton, Wis., and Dona (Craig) Meyer, Madison, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; daughter, Jodi Martin in 2018; granddaughter, Amy Martin-Phiffer, in 2021; his parents; brothers, Bernard, Kenneth and Eugene; and sister, Vivian.
A funeral service will be held at WESTERN KOSHKONONG LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2633 Church St., Cottage Grove, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, with Pastor Trent Saari presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. Burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Special gratitude is given for the staff at Stoughton Meadows Assisted Living and the staff at St. Croix Hospice. They all made Al's last few years happy and comfortable.
