Matthew Davis Obituary

East Kingston, N.H. -- Matthew Robert Davis, 30, died on July 17, 2006, in Boston from injuries suffered in a water sports accident.

He was born March 9, 1976, in Exeter, son of Steven and Susan (Clapp) Davis.

Matt grew up in East Kingston, one of four children. He graduated from Exeter High School, Class of 1994, and attended the Berkshire Institute for Christian Studies in Lenox, Mass., through which he visited the Holy Lands and climbed Mount Sinai. He then attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated in 1999 with a bachelor of arts degree in communications.

Matt had a love for children, life and the Lord, which propelled him into the path of youth pastoring. He started at the Advent Christian Church in Eliot, Maine, which led him on a missions trip to Honduras.

Matt devoted countless hours each year as a volunteer director for the Lakeside Advent Christian Camp in Belgrade, Maine, (lakesideaccamp.org). He recently moved home to be closer to his family and continue his youth ministry at Haverhill Advent Christian Church.

Matt lived the majority of his life in East Kingston, though he spent several years between Portland and Belfast, Maine.

He had a fun-loving spirit and enjoyed most all outdoor activities, including camping, rock climbing and water sports.

He wore his love for Jesus proudly, sharing his passion with everyone he met. He loved to sing praises and gave all he had for others, even in his death, as an organ donor.

He is survived by his parents, Steven and Susan Davis of East Kingston; one brother, sister-in-law and niece, Luke E., Adriana and Isabella Davis of Newfields; one sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and James Aitchison of East Kingston; one brother, James P. Davis of East Kingston; paternal grandparents, Francis R. and Harriet L. Davis of East Kingston; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 21, at Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at Haverhill Advent Christian Church, 160 Carleton St., Haverhill, Mass.

Burial will follow in East Kingston.

Donations may be made to either Haverhill Advent Christian Church Youth Programs, 370 Broadway, Haverhill, MA 01832, or Lakeside Advent Christian Camp, 100 Campground Road, Belgrade, ME 04917.

Matt was a member of our small group for young adults (affilliated with Faith E.F.C. in Waterville, ME). He will be sadly missed by us all, but we all look forward to seeing him again one day by God's grace.
