Patricia Carmichael Obituary

Patricia A. Carmichael
1946 - 2015
SOLON – Patricia A. Carmichael, 60-68-ish, passed away gracefully on Thursday, July 30, 2015 surrounded by her family after a brief scuffle with cancer. She was born in Newton, Mass. on Sept. 9, 1946 the daughter of Thomas and Sylvia (Davis) Curtin. Pat was raised in Acton, Mass. and graduated from Acton High School, Class of 1964.
Pat married Wayland Carmichael in 1965. In 1976 they moved to Maine to raise their family. For 32 years, she thoroughly enjoyed working in the Nutrition Services department at Redington-Fairview General Hospital where she was known by all as "Kitchen Pat". She loved working in the kitchen, where she did a little bit of everything, including being the self-appointed welcoming committee and decorator. For many years she expertly decorated the cafeteria for every season and holiday, and always looked forward to the hospital's annual BBQ and Christmas party.
Pat cherished her family and she loved nothing more than to shop with them, and for them. She was a seasoned bargain hunter who could always find a great deal, including the oddest of gifts she loved to give. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and collecting baskets.
Pat is survived by her children, Jeffrey Carmichael of Pittsfield and Debra Carmichael Scruggs of Bangor; granddaughter Danielle Carmichael; great-granddaughter, Alexis (AKA "Lexie Lou"); brother, David Curtin and wife Barbara of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister, Diane Doe and her husband Walter of NH, brothers-in-law, Perley Carmichael and wife Kathy of Virginia and Weldon Carmichael of Norridgewock, sisters-in-law, Gloria Harris of Winslow and Rae-Jean Carmichael of Norridgewock; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1995; her parents; and brother-in-law, Larry Harris.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Pat's life at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5, at the home of Rae-Jean Carmichael, 42 Carmichael Dr., Norridgewock. Guests are encouraged to honor Pat by wearing bright colors that Pat most enjoyed. A private interment will be at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Smart & Edwards funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine.
Pat's family extends their deepest appreciation to Rae-Jean for the compassionate care and companionship she provided Pat in her final months. The family also wishes to express appreciation for the support and care provided Beverly Patrie, and by the Hospice team including Michelle, Catherine, Jen and Erica. In their time of need, they were also comforted by Hospice Chaplain Julianne Bosquet and Rev. Mark Tanner.

Aunty Pat. She always had a joke, and would make me laugh so hard sometimes my stomach would hurt. I can't believe that she is gone. I am so sorry Jeff, Deb, and family. She will surely be missed. She was one of a kind. The mold was broken when she was made.

Pat will be greatly missed. I enjoyed working with her at Redington Fairview General Hospital in the kitchen. She wore a smile on her face and was kind to always ask me how I was doing or how my family was. She liked to share some of her family stories with me and I was always happen to listen. I could tell she loved her family very much. I want to express my deepest sympathy to those she left behind but take peace in knowing that she is no longer suffering and that someday you will all see her again. Till we meet again Pat, love Crystal Bowman

Deb, Jeff and the rest, I am so sorry. We are all hurting very badly and my condolences go out to all of the family she has left. We will miss her so much.
