Edna Swain Obituary

Edna L. Swain, 81
     BIDDEFORD -- Edna L. Swain, 81, of Biddeford, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Southern Maine Medical Center.
     She was born Feb. 1, 1927, on Chebeague Island, the daughter of George and Estella (Hamilton) Ross. In 1968, she married Bert E. Swain in South Portland. He died in 2001 after 33 years of marriage.
     Mrs. Swain worked at restaurants in and around Portland, including the former Puritan Restaurant and the first Amatos Restaurant ever opened. Later she worked with Portland's B&M Beans for many years until her retirement in the 1960s. Moving to Biddeford, she worked at York Manor's general store, gladly assisting residents purchasing their necessities.
     Mrs. Swain enjoyed working on crafts, jigsaw puzzles, and knitting. She also loved tending to her large flower garden while living in Standish. She especially enjoyed her visits to Chebeague Island to see her family and friends.
     She is predeceased by her son, Paul Darling; a sister and two brothers. Surviving are three sons, Lee A. Dunbar and his wife Debbie of Lake Arrowhead, Daniel C. Swain of Kennebunk, Donald E. Swain and his wife Mary of Portland, one daughter, Yvette D. Dunbar of Blue Hill; four sisters, Helen A. Wolf of Scarborough, Christine E. Haynes of South Portland, Shirley A. Palmer of Oklahoma, Phyliss E. Bryant of South Dakota, three brothers, Alfred Ross and of Alaska, Robert Ross of Portland, Raymond Ross of Texas; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
     Visiting hours will be 9 to 11 a.m., on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Chebeague Island Cemetery.

I am so sorry for your loss. Edna was a wonderful person. She took care of us for many years and did a great job. You are in my thoughts and prayers and we will never forget her.
