Kenneth Brown Obituary

Kenneth Eugene Brown, 68 AUBURN -- Kenneth Eugene Brown, 68, of Pownal, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, at Hospice House in Auburn surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Freeport on May 7, 1941, the son of Dorothy E. (Cummings) and Sherwin E. Brown. Ken graduated from Freeport High School, Class of 1959. The following year Ken enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served two years in Japan and two years in Long Island, N.Y. During his four years in the military he married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Allen, and together they had two sons. He pursued his love of cars by becoming an expert 'body & fender man' in Freeport after returning home to Maine. This job lead to Ken becoming an insurance appraiser for the last 30 years. Ken's love of horses lead him to become a farrier which he practiced for several years. Through the years Ken enjoyed working with an anvil and doing blacksmith work that was not only practical but also artistic. In high school Ken was a member of the Hot Rod Club, The Crusaders, with a 1940 Chevy and then his favorite, a 1956 green Ford pickup. Ken was active in his sons after school activities coaching Little League, Babe Ruth League and Hockey. He also belonged to the Freeport Lions Club. In later years he loved watching his grandchildren play sports, be it hockey, soccer or basketball he was their biggest fan. Ken will be remembered for his strong opinions and valued advice. Ken was admired by is brother, Jim for his tremendous example as a family man and husband. Ken's wife, Jack, has the fondness of Ken as a devoted father, best friend and husband whose family meant everything to him. Ken is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jacqueline Brown of Pownal; his two sons, Kevin Brown of Pownal and Eric Brown and his wife Melanie of Pownal; his five grandchildren, Haley, Cameron, Morgan, Taylor and Tyson; his brother James Brown and his wife Terri-Jean of Poland Spring and their children, James, Richard and Nicole. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at 3 p.m., at First Parish Church Congregational, 40 Main St., Freeport with the Rev. Anne Roundy officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in South Freeport Cemetery at a later time. The Brown family has created a memorial of his life and it is available at www.mem.com.
