Melvin Norton Obituary

Melvin V. Norton, 88 NORTH BERWICK -- Melvin V. Norton, 88, passed away June 26, 2009, at Frisbee Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Melvin was born on Sept. 27, 1920, in Addison, the son of Millard and Vesta (Colson) Norton. He graduated from Pembroke High School in Pembroke, and served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He worked in the wood business in Pembroke until 1960, then moved to North Berwick, where he worked full-time at Davidson Rubber in Dover, N.H. until retiring in 1985. Melvin worked part-time until the age of 80 for SAD 60 School District. Melvin enjoyed working around his home and was very proud of his property and gardens. He was a member of the American Legion Quint-Cheney Post #87 of North Berwick. In addition to his wife of 67 years, Elsie (Brown) Norton; he leaves his son Darrell and his wife Marlene of North Berwick; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was predeceased by his two sons, Douglas and Wendell North; a brother, Richard Norton; and a grandson, Michael Norton. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 30, at 3 p.m. in Hillside Cemetery in North Berwick. Arrangements are in the care of the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick.
