Taylor Sr., 72
SOUTH PORTLAND -- Robert A. Taylor Sr., 72, of South Portland, passed away on Sept. 24, 2013, following an accident in Scarborough.
He was born in Portland on Oct. 5, 1940, the son of Clark A. Taylor and Florence M. Baker.
He graduated from Deering High School in 1957. He joined the Navy and was stationed in Moracco.
He delivered papers for the Portland Press Herald for over 30 years. He has had a firewood business for 30 years and is known as the firewood man.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandy of South Portland; son Robert Jr. and his wife Julia, son Russell A. Taylor of Portland, daughters, Robyn Pearce and Rachel Taylor of New Gloucester; three grandsons, Benjamin, Colby and Zachary Taylor of Buxton; a great-granddaughter, Helena Taylor of Gorham; brother Clark and his wife Janette Taylor of Gray; many nieces and nephews; and long time friends.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd., South Portland. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, at Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland. Online condolences may be expressed at www.hobbsfuneralhome.com.

I am very sorry for your loss.
Bob came by our house every day for so many years. I saw him most mornings. He was friendly and quick to wave encouragement to me urging me and everybody else to keep jogging in spite of the heat or cold.
We will all miss him.

I sit here for the last 10 minutes thinking of multiple things to say .. I had the joy and pleasure to speak with Bob just minutes prior. I felt like I knew all of his family and loved ones as he was very proud and happy of each of you, as he always took a few minutes each day to speak with me; "and how is Peter today" My sincerest and heartfelt condolences, Bob touched many hearts and will be sadly missed.

I had the privilege of meeting Bob 8 years ago when I started delivering the newspaper. He always had a good morning and he even taught me his paper route so I could cover for him so he could have a vacation. I moved out of state 2 years ago but i still read the press herald everyday.
To Bobs family I am so sorry for you loss. My payers are with all of you.
