John Todd Stewart

1924 - 2014

John Todd Stewart, On July 3, 2014 John Todd Stewart, Jr., age 89, passed away peacefully at Normandy Farms Retirement Community, Blue Bell, PA. His wife of 62 years, Catharine, was by his side. Todd, son of John Todd Stewart and Wilhelmina Hansen Stewart, was born on December 11, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA. He grew up in Butler and attended Butler Public High School from which he graduated in 1941. He was admitted to Harvard College where he continued his education and was a member of the Harvard Crew Team. He graduated from Harvard in 1944 and went on to Yale Law School. After graduation in 1948 with a focus in banking, he worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. He was a member of the Ohio Bar Association. In 1952 he married Catharine Maclary of Milton, MA. They moved to Wayne, PA. where they lived for 43 years and raised their family. Todd began work in 1954 in the Trust Department of The Fidelity Bank in Philadelphia. He settled estates and administered trusts, becoming a Vice President of the bank in 1978. He was highly regarded and a valued employee of Fidelity for 36 years. Throughout his life, Todd was involved with his community. He served on the Radnor School Board, was Treasurer for the Radnor Historical Society in Wayne, and was Judge of Elections in Radnor's 1st Ward. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, St. Andrew's Society of Philadelphia and a member of Thomson Lodge F and AM. Todd served as an elder of Great Valley Presbyterian Church and was a Trustee of Eastern University for 29 years from 1974-2003. Todd is survived by his wife, Catharine, and his two children, son David Maclary Stewart (Sarah) and daughter Janet Stewart Blynn (Reid), and will be missed by his much-loved grandchildren: Emily, Henry, Reid and Peter Blynn. A private interment service was held on July 12th at Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, PA, followed by a Memorial Service at Normandy Farms Estates.
