Alice Lucille Sturdevant

Alice Lucille Sturdevant, 98, of Brethren, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Lucille was born to Alice and Harvey Somsel on August 9, 1925, in Brethren, Michigan. She graduated from Dickson High School and was named outstanding student of the class.
After High School, she married her husband of forty-three years, Thomas Sturdevant, and moved to Tacoma, Washington. After ten years there, they moved to Redwood City, California, where they lived for fifty years. After the death of her husband and both of her sons, she moved back to Brethren, where she met and married her second husband, Art Wilbur.
She attended Bay City College for Medical and Dental Assistant in San Francisco, California, and was a hygienist. She also worked for Electron Assembly as a pre-inspector at GTE, in San Carlos, California, for twenty-five years.
She was a member of Lakeview Church of the Brethren, where she loved singing in the choir, helping out in the food pantry, and taking part in the Women's Fellowship and Bible Study. Lucille was a lifelong member of Eastern Star, holding several offices over the years. She enjoyed reading and camping, as well as going to concerts and plays in the San Francisco area. She had many stories of camping with Tom and the boys, and the family cat.
Lucille was a refined lady who made friends easily. She had an amazing memory and was a good storyteller. She loved to laugh, especially when the joke was on her. She was ever ready for an adventure or a fish fry at Lenz's Restaurant.
Lucille was preceded in death by: her parents, Alice and Harvey Somsel; her husband, Thomas; sons, Norman Sturdevant and Stephen "Rocky" Sturdevant; her granddaughter, Diana Sanchez; grandson, Todd Sturdevant; brother, Cameron Somsel; sisters, Bernice Leckrone, Ethel Sturdevant, Elsie Paulus, and Doris Mlasko; and her second husband, Arthur Wilbur.
She is survived by: daughters-in-law, Barbara and Patti Pattee Sturdevant; grandsons, Brian and Christian Sturdevant; great-grandsons, Stephen, Mark, and Vinnie Sturdevant and Andrew Sanchez; granddaughters, Monica Sanchez Hildreth, Jasmine, Jayden, Samantha, and Bree Sturdevant; great-great granddaughter, Julia Hildreth; her brother, Corwin "Pete" Somsel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucille's family wishes to express their appreciation for Willowbrook Care Center, Hospice of Michigan, and especially her Lakeview Church family for their loving care and support.
Services will take place at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Lakeview Church of the Brethren. Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the church. Interment will follow in Brethren Cemetery.
