John Schuster Obituary

John "Jack" Schuster

Mansfield - LAST CALL FOR ALCOHOL! Jack's voice could be heard by all and his voice was known by many as he belted out this phrase. John "Jack" Schuster's final call from this earth came, Friday, January 26, 2018 in Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 83.

He was born November 16, 1934 in Youngstown to parents John F. & Winifred (Gordon) Schuster. As a teenager he saved the life of a young boy who was drowning off the shores of Lake Erie. Before he was able to graduate high school, he proudly served his country by joining the US Marine Corps. A beautiful young lady named Jackie Prince caught his eye and after standing her up on three dates, the pair soon married on July 25, 1959.

Jack was a provider for his family. He started working as an owner of Shakey's Pizza Parlor in California before coming home to tell his wife that he quit and they were moving to Ohio. Once here in Mansfield he purchased the Dog House with one of his brothers before turning it into DJ's Coffee Shop. In 1973 he, along with two police officers, opened three The Bot'l House drive-thrus in the now Southside Pizza, Lexington Beverage Center and one on Springmill Street. He opened Village Inn & Tap Room in Lexington before opening Paul Revere's. It was around 1999 that he expanded Paul Revere's from a bar into a full-service restaurant. He sold the business in 2005 and became a greeter at Walmart until he finally retired from work in 2011.

In spare time, he took pleasure in cheering on the Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. A card shark by nature, he enjoyed playing any type of card game from Poker with buddies, Black Jack at the casino to probably his favorite, Phase Ten with the grandkids. He was a card wiz. He was a thrill seeker at heart and even at 80 years old he was still riding rollercoasters at Cedar Point.

Jack was at home with a fishing pole in his hand. He enjoyed any time he could on his boat out on the water. He even went on an unforgettable fishing trip to Canada with his son, grandsons and wife where he got his favorite sweatshirt. But above all, Jack cherished his family, especially his grandkids, and enjoyed any time he could spend with them.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Jackie Schuster; children Kenneth Schuster, Catherine & Vince Storms and Vikki & Shawn Bartlett; grandchildren Ashley and her husband Angel, Kyle, Tyler, Beth, Courtney and her husband Dustin and Lindsay; great-grandchildren Noah, Bella and Brayden; Brother Richard & Cathie Schuster; sisters Susan & Dennis Turcoliveri and Jennie Ramey; beloved dogs Buddy and Daisy Mae as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to his parents John F., Winifred and Doris, Jack was preceded in death by his son David Schuster; brother Ronald Schuster; special cousin Ken "Cuz" Holbein; his beloved dogs Nikki and Bella; father and mother-in-law Ken & Bea Prince and brother-in-law Terence Prince.

The Schuster family will receive friends Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home and will continue Wednesday, January 31, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. where a Last Call Service honoring Jack's life will begin immediately at 12 p.m. Celebrant Dave Roberts will officiate.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff in the Coronary Care Unit at OhioHealth Mansfield and especially to Laura & Cheryl for their friendship, caregiving and lunch dates.

Contributions in his memory to the Richland County Humane Society can be made at the funeral home.

In reading about Mr Schuster, it made me feel as if I knew him. He surely made a good name for himself, as well as his family. I wish I could have had the pleasure of meeting him. May the scriptures bring the family comfort at a time as this. John 11:24-26

My prayers are with you. Jack was an honest ,sweet man that was my business customer when I was teller at Bank One . On one of his change orders I accidently had $100.00 too much and it was Christmas Eve day. When my drawer was off and I was in tears . We went over my tapes and called all my business customers. When I called Jack he said he hadn't recounted and it was still there. Yep I had give him too much and he rushed right back. That has always stayed with me. That was one of the best Christmas Eves because of Jack the honest man. Prayers be with you all.
