Elizabeth Folwell Way

1932 - 2022

Betty Way Life Master May 27, 1932 May 28, 2022 Elizabeth Folwell Way, Betty, as she was affectionately known, passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was born in Rochester, New York and went to Brighton High School and Skidmore College. During college she met Walter (Skip) Way through high school friends. Betty graduated and married Skip in 1955 while he was in medical school. In 1958, Betty and Skip loaded up their station wagon and drove across the country with two children in tow so Skip could join the first group of residents in the newly established anesthesia department at UC San Francisco. Skip stayed with UCSF for the rest of his career. Betty and Skip discovered the town of Ross through Van Logan (Skip's high school best friend) and in 1962 they moved across the Golden Gate Bridge. Betty sang in the choir and belonged to the Altar Guild at St. John's. She was an active member of the Ross School PTA, the Lagunitas Club, Sunny Hills Auxiliary, UCSF Faculty Wives, and the R&B Investment Club. Betty was a competitor whether it was golf, tennis or contract bridge. She reached the rank of Life Master in bridge. She took her enjoyment of football to another level when she became the statistician for the Ross Valley Rascals fantasy football league. Betty created the excel spreadsheets and reported the weekly scores, before there was an app for it. Betty and Skip maintained their roots in upstate New York and spent many summers with extended family and friends at "camp" in Honeoye. Wherever Betty was, gatherings were a top priority - 4th of July, fantasy football drafts, Christmas caroling and cookie decorating, a Franco-American wedding, sunsets in Maui, there was always a reason to celebrate with loved ones. Betty is survived by her daughter Barbara (Yann) Delpuech; son Jonathan (Joanie) Way; grandchild Natalie (Michael) Richley; great-grandchild Walter; grandchildren Preston (Nicole) Way and Riley Way; son Jeffrey (Tonya) Way; and grandchildren Weston and Phillip Way. She also leaves behind her brother Richard Folwell of Rochester, and many nieces and nephews. A remembrance for Betty will be held in Honeoye, New York on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. The family invites friends to make donations to the UCSF Faculty Associates Student Loan Fund.
