Kathy Waterman Obituary

Kathy Banfield Waterman August 26, 1946 ~ July 18, 2007 Kathy passed away after a long battle with cancer. Known by all for her heart of gold, generous spirit, and her love for family and friends, Kathy is best known for always doing for others before she would do for herself. A lifelong resident of Marin, she leaves behind her husband of 38 years, Larry Waterman, her son Frank and daughter-in-law, Lumi Waterman, son Lance and daughter-in-law Gabriella Waterman. She is also survived by her mother, Sylvia Sue Banfield and her loving siblings, brother Eddie Banfield and his wife Elaine, sister Sylvia Pilago and her husband Taki, sister Mary Ellen Banfield and brother David Banfield and his wife Rae, brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Dee Dee Waterman, nieces Jessica Banfield, Amanda Banfield, Heidi Waterman and nephew Jamie Waterman. Kathy's family sends their love and special thanks to Elaine who has been at Kathy's side throughout this long, final journey. The family also wishes to express their love and gratitude to Kathy's long-time friend and nursing associate, Adrienne Friberg, who took care of her and was by her side until the end. Larry and the family would also like to thank all of Kathy's friends who sent cards, flowers and love during this difficult time. Kathy loved her yard and listening to her wind chimes provided her a sense of calm in her final days. We know she is now at peace and in a better place. At her request, there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, you may remember Kathy by making a donation in her name to one of her favorite organizations Bay Area Boxer Rescue, P.O. Box 32686, San Jose, CA 05152 or Guide Dogs for the Blind, San Rafael, CA 94903.

There just aren't enough words to express the wonder that is Kathy. She is one of the sweetest, kind hearted and gentlest people to ever walk this earth and I am proud to have known her. Kathy and Larry have been grandparents to our two boys, who greatly adore them both. Kathy was the first person to hold my youngest the day after he was born and I look at that picture every morning on my refridgerator. I am so sorry that life got away from us to the point where we did not come visit as much as we should have. You always think there will be more time.... But please know, Larry, that you and Kathy are in our thoughts every day and you will always be part of our family.

Kathy and I met when she became my father Dave's friend & swimming companion. She had that quick smile, laughed at all his jokes and wouldn't hesitate to break into song with him in the middle of the pool. She brought so much fun and happiness into his life. Larry, Frank and Lance, like you, we miss her deeply. Kathy was a very special "hey girlfriend."

"Some people come into our lives and move our souls to dance. They awaken us to understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom....
They make our world more beautiful, ...Leave footprints in our hearts, and we are never, ever the same,,,"

My Cousin Kathy and I saw very little of one another over the years but her spirit was a Bright Star in my life,,, I will miss her presence here dearly!!!
Have attached photos of the McNutt/Banfield Clan taken in Marin County around the end of the 40's/beginning of the 50's.
They were incredible get togethers,,, memories of which created loving bonds that will never, ever fade,,,,,,,,,,

My thoughts and Love are with you Larry, Frank and Lance!

Kathy was the kind of person that you ALWAYS wanted to see. Funny, sincere, always thinking of others. We will think of her every night when we hear the wind chimes she gave us so many years ago.

Kathy was my first cousin and her mother was my father's sister. Our childhood was intermingled and I have so many wonderful memories that fill my heart. We always kept in contact and she was a light and a blessing in my life. I miss her very much. She will be in my heart forever.

Larry, Frank and Lance,

Our families were intertwined throughout the school years and ever since. Both of our homes were filled with the boys and all of their friends and we had the same joys, worries and concerns.

At this time of great loss to the three of you, our thoughts, our prayers and our love are with you all.

We met Kathy and Larry through John Machado and Gina, and of course Continental Jewlers. Tom and I always thought, what a loving couple they were too each other. Kathy was always so friendly and what a lovely woman. We will miss her.
