Patty Wineland

1933 - 2019

Patty Wineland Known as "Patty from Cincinnati", Patty Wineland was born January 20, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Ranald and Margaret West. After a brief battle with pneumonia, complicated by Alzheimer's, she went to sing and dance with her angels January 25, 2019. Patty grew up in Cincinnati and attended the University of Cincinnati where she met her first husband, Bob Newbold. After they married, they moved to several Army bases with their infant daughter, Nancy. Bob left the Army in 1960 and subsequently moved the family, which included their infant son Robby, to Novato, California. Novato was home to Patty and her family for over 60 years. Her second husband, Don Wineland, loved to travel and was interested in family history. They visited England and Ireland looking for their family roots. They also went on many cruises with their good friends. They were happily married 26 years until Don passed suddenly after heart surgery in 1998. In a grief support group, Patty met Mel Hechtman and they had many good years together. They liked to travel and spent a lot of time exploring the California coast. Lovers of singing and music, Mel and Patty attended many plays, music festivals, and lively Dixieland events all over California. When Mel passed in 2014, Patty moved closer to her daughter, Nancy, and son-in-law, Dave Mathews. She relocated to Davis, CA and enjoyed several years at Atria Covelle Gardens before moving even closer to Dave and Nancy, to Pacifica Senior Living in Vacaville. After only 2 months there, she developed a virulent form of pneumonia and passed away January 25, 2019. She is survived by her stepmother, Mary West, brother, Stephen West (Jackie), daughter, Nancy Mathews (Dave), nieces, Jennifer Wyatt (Doug) and Mary Ellen West (Ben Cohen), and nephew Randy Wachs (Daphene), granddaughter, Asheley Martin (Erik) and grandson, Ryan Mathews. She was predeceased by her son Robby Newbold in 1973, and her sister Margaret Riedinger in 2003. A celebration of her life will be held at Bryan-Braker Funeral Chapel in Fairfield, California. Her ashes will be taken to Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer's Association.
