Ellen Earles Roach McKinney

November 21, 1927 - July 30, 2022

Ellen Earles Roach McKinney, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Brookdale of Reidsville.

A service will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Wilkerson Funeral Home at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ryan Burris officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens.

Ellen was born in Axton, Va., to the late Robert and Bertha Compton Earles. She was a graduate of Axton High School and retired from American Tobacco Company after 39 years of work. She had also been a cosmetologist through the years, was past president and member of the American Legion Unit 79 as well as the American Business Women's Association. She was a member of Baptist Temple Church in Reidsville and a former member of Community Baptist Church. She loved music, loved to dance and loved dressing up in pretty clothes. Where there was a dance, you would find Ellen. She was known as the "candy lady" at the local nursing homes because she would hand out candy to residents each Sunday afternoon. Ellen loved to travel and visit new place. She remained very active until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hassel Roach; sisters, Flora Earles, Lula Marshall, Ruby Earles, Mae Terry and Rose Earles; brother, Washington Earles; and special friend, Fred Hardy.

Ellen is survived by her daughter, Joyce Roach; grandsons, Jameson McGeHee, Curtis McGeHee, and Wesley McGeHee; and a host of nieces and nephews.
