Gilbert Bach

Gilbert Bach, 87, of Bach Lane, passed away on October 5, 2014 at home. He was born October 4, 1927 in S. Hadley, son of Joseph H. and Louise (Skwarlo) Bach. Gilbert started employment in 1946 as a mechanic at Wonder Bread in Holyoke. He retired in 1983, as Director of Transportation for ITT Continental Baking in Rye, NY where he traveled throughout the United States, Hawaii, Mexico and W. Indies. He was a member of the Galaxy Community Council, avid traveler, former Town Meeting member and Coast Guard Auxiliary member. He was a small engine and glider pilot. Gilbert enjoyed farming with his family and donated all the surplus vegetables to Kate's Kitchen in Holyoke for many years. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sara (Camarda) Bach of South Hadley, daughter, Marlene Bach of Westfield, and two sons, Gilbert Bach and wife Candace of South Hadley, Louis Bach and wife Elizabeth of Northampton. He will also be missed by 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Joseph Bach and sisters Rhea Monahan and Philamina Godek. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Cemetery in South Hadley. Calling hours will be Friday, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St., South Hadley.
