Barbara Tallman

Barbara Tallman, 85, of Allentown, passed away on November 21, 2022, in the Lutheran Home at Topton. She was the wife of the late Attorney Robert G. Tallman. Born in Schenectady, NY, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey P. and Eleanor M. (Englert) Foote. Barbara worked at B. Altman department store in New York City from 1955 to 1959. A 1959 graduate of Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY, she taught English in public and private schools in Great Falls, Montana, Sudbury Massachusetts and West Reading, Pennsylvania from 1960 to 1976. In 1976, she and a fellow Montessori teacher founded Montessori Academy of PA in Boyertown, a highly regarded pre-school- 6th grade school in that area. Barbara retired in 1994 from the Montessori Academy where she served as a founder, director, and teacher for 18 years. Barbara was active in her community with The Fund to Benefit Children and Youth and the Junior League of Reading. She also served as a volunteer tutor in Reading. Following her retirement from teaching she was a Swain School Trustee and served on the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation Board of Governors. Her love for teaching inspired others including one of her grandsons who is now a middle school English and Spanish teacher. Barbara enjoyed gardening, antiquing, cooking, reading, and spending time with her children, stepchildren and all her grandchildren, mostly at the beach with her late husband Bob.

Survivors: son, Richard L. husband of Allison Broadbent of Reading; daughter, Dana L. Bunting of Mountainside, NJ, stepson, Alexander Tallman of Braselton, GA; stepdaughter, Audrey wife of George Grant of Atlanta, GA; sister, Tracy Vail of Broadus, MT; grandsons, Robert L. Bunting, III of San Diego, CA and John C. Bunting of New York City; granddaughters, Emily Broadbent, wife of TJ Tweddle of Lancaster, Sarah Broadbent of Lancaster and Morgan E. Finnell wife of Sam, of Hingham, MA., step-grandsons, Robert Grant, Jacob Grant and Henry Tallman; step-granddaughters, Hunter Tallman, Harper Tallman and Emily Tallman and a great-grandson: Grayson Bunting Finnell.

A Memorial Service will held on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 11 A.M. in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th & Hamilton Streets in Allentown. Condolences may be offered at: www.jsburkholder.com.
