Joseph C. Gatta, 84, of Fountain Hill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 9, 2021 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Szabo) Gatta. Born in Fountain Hill, he was the son of the late Anthony and Beatrice (Berardo) Gatta. Joe honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of St. Ursula Catholic Church, Fountain Hill. Joe lovingly served the community of Fountain Hill most of his career as a police officer where he retired and continued his responsibilities as the code & zoning enforcement officer into his 70's. He was a true "Hiller" and truly loved the borough of Fountain Hill. Joe started his career as a Barber, owning his own shop during his early years. He always taught his family to be true to themselves and follow their hearts but to stay strong in their beliefs and most importantly, always make time to laugh. Within Joe's family he was always known for his quick wit and "Joe Gatta-isms" which continue to make everyone laugh today. He was the very best father, husband, brother, most amazing grandfather and great grandfather. Joe loved with his entire heart and truly enjoyed his time with his family. Rest easy "Pop the Cop".

SURVIVORS: He will be lovingly remembered by his son Anthony Gatta of Fountain Hill; daughters Rosemarie Schoenenberger of Fountain Hill and Theresann Gatta-Harpster and her husband Tom of Kunkletown; brother Peter Gatta and Mary Jane of Fountain Hill; granddaughters Nichole, Ashlee, Alicia and Jessica and his loving 3 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Gatta.

SERVICES: A Funeral Service will be held at 10 A.M. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at the Cantelmi Funeral Home, 1311 Broadway Fountain Hill, PA 18015 where the family will recieve relatives and friends from 9 A.M. until time of the service. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.

Tony, Dolly & Theresann,
So very sorry for the passing of your Dad. As much of a...challenge...my teenage buddies and I were for your Father he always dealt with us with patience and compassion. He was always right around the corner, or so we feared, when we needed his guidance most. His actions ultimately attracted me to his profession and ironically your Dad wound up my first assigned partner. I´m grateful to have known your Dad and for the guidance he provided. My Prayers go out to the Gatta Family. I worked many years with Joe in fact he was my first training Officer .
We worked a lot of middle shifts together and I have a
many fond memories of those days. I am sure he is a happy now together with Mary .

I shared many moments of my life with Joe Gatta, mostly working together in Fountain Hill as Borough Administrator. As a matter of fact 22 years, he as a Zoning Officer/Code Enforcement Officer. He was a dedicated worker and a kind person. Joe helped me getting around the Borough and introducing me to the community. His invaluable knowledge of the history of Fountain Hill made my job in the beginning a bit easier. I could rely on Joe knowing something about any subject I broached to him. Thank you Joe for your wisdom and friendship throughout our career as public servants and May you Rest In Peace eternally with God. My sincere sympathy to his family at this time of sorrow. Amen
