Warren Leverett Obituary

Warren Edward Leverett, 71, of Jasper, GA passed away on Good Friday April 15, 2022, (2 years to the date after his mother died) after an unexpected and brief illness. Graveside services will be on Friday April 22 at 3:00 PM at the Fort Gaines, GA Cemetery and Visitation will be at the Lunsford Funeral Home in Cuthbert, GA on April 22 at a time TBA. Friends and Family are invited to attend.

Born on January 3, 1951 in Cuthbert, Georgia, Warren was preceded in death by his parents William H. Leverett, Sr. and Eva Marjorie Sanders Leverett, and nephew Richard W. Leverett. He is survived by siblings: Carey O. Leverett, William H. Leverett, Jr (Jean), and Donna; Nephews: Nicholaus G. (Claire), Jonathan W. (Sara), and Scott Leverett, as well as, two grand-nieces and three grand-nephews.

He resided in Edison, Georgia until 1955 when he moved with his family to Marietta, Georgia. He spent most of his life in Cobb County, and in the last 20 years resided in Pickens County, Georgia. He was a Christian and former member of Marietta First Baptist Church.

He first attended Fairhaven School in Atlanta, GA and later graduated from Campbell High School, Smyrna, GA. He retired from the Cobb County Public School System. He also worked for Cobb EMC, Six Flags Over Georgia, and Publix Super Markets. He attended Burnt Mountain Center, where he made many friends.

Though Warren was keenly aware of his developmental delay affliction, he courageously faced the world, every day. He was a kind, thoughtful, adventurous, fun-loving, mild-mannered, shy, but a friendly, gentle soul without a mean bone in his body. He loved children, and animals, especially horses, dogs, and cats. He had many friends.

He was an avid NASCAR race fan, and he once met his favorite driver, Richard Petty.

He had a consuming interest in horses and had the privilege of volunteering for Angels on Horseback therapeutic horse-riding organization in Jasper for a number of years. He became fast friends with the director, and after hours, they often went on trial rides together or drove to pick up hay for the horses.

Additionally, he occasionally spent time at the Star Equestrian horseback therapy Center in Washington County, Maryland.

He enjoyed going to Cowboy Church in Fairmount, GA.

One of Warren's proudest accomplishments was training for an entire year for the Special Olympics and winning a gold medal in the S.O. Equine Trail Riding Event.

He loved driving his red car, red flowers, riding roller coasters and scary rides, playing put-put, and going to amusement parks, especially Six Flags, Disney World, and Dolly Wood.

He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

If so desired, Charitable Contributions in his memory can be made to: Joy House, 24 Virtue Lane Jasper, GA 30143; Cowboy Church 9906 Henderson Mtn Rd. Fairmount, GA, 30139; or Angels on Horseback,1284 Pendley Circle Jasper, GA. 30143.

Happy Trails to you until we meet again, Warren!
