Paul Hansen Obituary

Paul Brown Hansen
May 30, 1943 - July 31, 2018
Paul Brown Hansen died of a cardiac event Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at his home in Kaysville, Utah. He was 75 years old.
Paul spent his life dedicated to God, his wife and his seven children. He was born in Hollister, California to Wayne and Leona Hansen and was the second of four children. He enjoyed his childhood in Ceres, California where he spent many hours playing baseball and basketball, working on the family farm and showing hogs at the county fair. He was an avid sports fan, cheering on his San Francisco Giants and BYU Cougars.
As a young man, Paul served as a missionary for two years in the West Mexican Mission. He then returned to Brigham Young University for his undergraduate studies, where he met and fell in love with Judith Lynne Horne. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple. Following their time at BYU, Paul completed both his dental and oral & maxillofacial surgery training at the University of California, San Francisco.
Paul and Judy raised their family of seven children in Merced, California, where Paul built a successful oral & maxillofacial surgery practice. He spent 33 years pouring his heart into helping those he treated.
Paul has been a faithful, dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints his entire life. He spent years of devotion in church service, including as bishop, Spanish branch president, and counselor in his local stake presidency. Paul served as First Counselor in the Fresno, California Temple presidency from 2007-2010 and then as President of the Fresno, California Temple from 2010-2013. Paul most recently served as a sealer in the Bountiful, Utah temple.
From his days of service as a young boy to his later days of service in the temple, Paul will always be known for his compassionate, quiet acts of kindness and generosity. He taught by example how to "mourn with those that mourn… and comfort those that stand in need of comfort." He lived for the welfare and love of his family and the ministering of others.
Paul joins across the veil his parents, sister and granddaughter. He is survived by his wife, Judy, his seven children and respective spouses; Kristin and Gregory Fenn, Kevin and Julie Hansen, Cinda and David Wade, Stacie and Matthew Gruwell, Scott Hansen, Jennifer and Todd Fairbanks, and Amy and Zachary Whitney; his 21 grandchildren; and two of his siblings, James Hansen and Faye Pinkston.
In lieu of flowers, spend an afternoon cherishing your loved ones in this beautiful world with which our Father in Heaven has blessed us. Paul so loved his time spent with family among his gardens.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville South Stake Center, 900 S. Main Street, Kaysville, Utah. Friends may visit with family Friday, August 3, 2018 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main St. and on Saturday, August 4, 2018 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. When I think of Bishop Hansen I think of him holding his eyelids open during sacrament meeting. I often wonder if he ever got to sleep. When I think I'm too tired I think of his example of unending service. May the Lord bless you Judy at this time of remembering your sweet companion.

Paul has always been an incredible man and one that loved the Lord with all his heart! He will be in so many hearts for years to come as he still is for us! He is needed to serve in the Spirit world as there is so much to be done there. Judy and their lovely family will be in our thoughts and prayers for a long time as they go through this very difficult time. Our love to all of you!

I have many fond memories of Paul and Judy and their wonderful family. Growing up in Merced, Paul was a significant influence for good for me as a young man and for our family. He was a dedicated and loving home teacher. He showed great patience and a sense of humor as he would be talking with my parents and Kevin and I would be making goofy faces at each other a good portion of the visit.

Paul was a very spiritual man and I always knew that he had a strong testimony of and faith in Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and His gospel. He lived his life as a disciple of Christ, most of the time. I can recall a few intense softball and basketball moments where the competitive fire bubbled over maybe just a little bit too much.

I know he loved all of his family members deeply. He showed great concern for each of them and tried to do all that he could to help and support them. He cared enough also to express his opinions when he felt something was not right. He was willing to speak his mind in a clear, firm and gentle way. I will be grateful as I was the recipient of one of those gentle rebukes or reminders. That occasion was helpful for me as a youth and has been a good example for me as an adult in working with youth who need some help and direction.

Thank you, Paul! I look forward to and am hopeful for a reunion someday! My heart and best wishes go out to Judy and the Hansen family.

Judy and family, how we love you all. It's hard to express in words the sadness we feel in hearing of Paul's passing. Our memories of Paul are of his life long service in the church, of his testimony and example. I enjoyed hearing him bear his testimony in Spanish. In his career, I was pleasantly surprised when he called to check on my daughter after she had oral surgery, he truly cared for others. We admired and respected him. You and the family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Judy and family,

With deep sorrow and sadness we have learned of the loss of a very dear friend. We remember when you first came to Merced to set up your practice. Judy came to the lighting store and picked out some lights for your new home that you were building. We learned to love and respect your family as they grew up in Merced under the love and guidance of loving parents.
Paul was a devoted husband, professional doctor and an honorable servant in so many callings in the Church. A leader, a counselor, a guide, a friend and most importantly, he was faithful and honest to all with whom he associated. He was a tiger in physical sports and dedicated to winning.
We loved Paul as a friend and he will truly be missed.
To you, Judy, and all your children, Sherri and I send our deepest love and pray the Lord will give the aid and comfort you seek.
Paul will always be remembered by us, a dear, dear friend and brother.

You can only try to imagine the shock, dismay and sorrow we experienced when we read Paul's obituary. We have so many fond memories shared with your precious family when we lived in Merced. He definitely was a very spiritual, compassionate and caring man. I never heard him speak ill of anyone, but was constantly looking for ways he could serve or make life easier for all he came in contact with. Please know that you will be in our thoughts and prayers as you work through this difficult time in your lives. With love, Carol and Terry Ashman

What more can I say about Paul Hansen than he was just a great man. He was my mentor in my early days in the church in Merced CA and I loved him like a brother. He and Judy always made Linnea and I feel loved and appreciated and I was fortunate to be able to live near him and know and love his family. I have so many wonderful memories of him and my early church leadership days. I remember being called into the bishopric with Brother Ashman as one of his counselors when he was called as Bishop of the Merced 1st Ward. I was scared to death of this leadership call but Paul helped me along and was a major part of my development into the church. I will surely miss him as I feel a part of my life slip away with his passing.
Linnea and I send our love to Judy and all of his kids, and even though we have all moved away and gone on with our lives, I will never forget them. May Heavenly Father bless and comfort you all as we remember that in a short time we will all be together again on the other side of the veil.

We were beyond shocked and saddened when we read Paul's obituary. We have so many fond memories of the Hansen family when we lived in Merced and interacted with you beautiful family. I was blessed to have served in the Bishopric with this spiritual giant and witnessed first hand his love for all mankind. I doubt he ever had an unkind word or thought about anyone. Love, compassion and service, along with his family, were what seemed to motivate his entire life. Please know that our thoughts and prayers will be with your family as you struggle through this extremely difficult time in your lives. We love you, Carol and Terry Ashman

In learning of the passing of Paul, our hearts were torn and can imagine how you must have felt, and now feel. He was a man of strength and courage, always ready with a smile and a welcome that made you feel a special part of his life. We have fond memories of occasions in the temple home as well as in the Fresno Temple of the both of you when you so graciously welcomed us. He was a good mentor during the time I spent with him in the House of the Lord, and I shall not forget his friendship. Too often we don't take the time to tell those who have touched our lives in some special way how much that has helped us. May God give you peace and comfort in the days ahead.

We are so sorry to hear of Pres. Hansens recent passing but know he is still close to every one of you. He was my bishop in Merced Ward and he married my husband larry and and i. He was always so kind and always had a beautiful warm smile every time he saw you. I believe that our marriage was his first one in the chapel in Merced.
He will be greatly missed and will always have a special fondness in our hearts. We saw him often in the temple and he always smiled that beautiful smile when I introduced him to our friends in the temple as the one who married us. He was truly a wonderful man who had a special closness with our Father in Heaven.

I love this man. He was my first bishop when I was baptized 32 years ago. He always met my eyes across the room and then made his way toward me to welcome me and make me feel apart of the ward. My prayers are with you all!

I am so grateful to have known such a wonderful man. I had the joy and pleasure of working for Dr. Hansen for many years. Getting to know his beautiful family through his many dinner engagements he held at his home and also listinening to the countless stories he told in the office of his growing family is something I will never forget. Dr. Hansen was an amazing employer to work for, and he treated me with nothing but respect and compassion. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by more people than anybody would know, due to his generosity in helping so many people in need. It was an honor working for him and seeing what human kindness really is. I have learned so many valuable life lesson while working in his practice. My condolences to the Hansen family, especially Judy.
